Phillip's Bible Commentary

This site is extremely proud to offer our cousins
the opportunity to view four pages from one of the original
Bible Commentaries of
Phillip Gysberti Hoodenpyl
beautifully written with his own
hand!
~An excerpt~
"My heart literally skipped a beat and my pulse quickened
for somehow I KNEW I
was holding copies of that wondrous treasure for which I had long
searched."
~Copies of the Commentary pages were provided by Carolyn
Carr Zimmerman~
Great Great Great Granddaughter of Phillip & Jane

In reading the pages, observe the question marks. I'm
not
sure of their purpose. In some cases, possibly periods.

Typed Text of the Pages
Gods then one ? which I shall further prove ? I have quoted it before
but shall repeat
it again because it answers the Present Purpose ? Anderson saith in Page
11 again both
reason and Revelation forbid religious worship to be addressed to any except
the living
and true God ? thou shalt worship the Lord thy God: him only shalt thou serve
? yet all
the Angels are commanded to worship christ, heb 1:6 worship was addressed
to him
again and again: and yet not the most distant hint is given that it is improper
? and well
might worship be rendered to him: for in him dwells the fulness of the godhead
bodily ?
he was God manifested in the flesh: blessed over all forever: but I must
suppress the
full tide of evidence: that spontaniously flows: in support of the divinity
of the Lord and
saviour Jesus christ ? thus Anderson has proved ___self: a ma _____________
in
divinity and divine things: and by his divine Phrases imposes his divinity
a female
goddess of gold on the People for a male god: and a living and a true god
? for Anderson
saith he was god manifested in the flesh: therefore may worship be rendered
unto him ?
Previous to this Anderson saith all the Angels are commanded to worship christ
heb 1:6
them words are recorded in Heb 1:6 but are a falsehood: when compared with
the word
of God: and the sayings of Paul ? for God as before quoted saith in isaiah
45:23 I have
sworn by my self: the word is gone out of my mouth in Righteousness: and
shall not
return ? that unto me every knee shall bow: and every tongue shall swear
? this oath is
Positive and not be be broken that every knee shall bow: and every tongue
shall swear ?
unto God ? Angels have knees to bow: and tongues to swear then the word is
every knee
shall bow: and
every tongue shall swear ? of course Angels as well as men must bow the
knee to God:
and swear with their tongue to God ? this last is Proved in Revelations 10:5
John saith
and the Angel which I saw stand upon the sea: and upon the earth ? lifted
up his hand to
heaven: and sware by him that liveth forever and ever ? who created heaven
and the
things that are therein: and the earth and the things that are therein: and
the sea and
the things that therin are: that there should be time no longer ? Revelations
7:11 and all
the Angels stood round about the throne: and about the elders and the four
beasts: and
fell before the throne on their faces: and worshipped God ? saying Amen:
blessing and
glory and wisdom and thanks giving and honour and Power and might: be unto
our God
forever and ever: Amen ? this sacred doctrine and the language used to explain
it ?
what is there that is not shrouded in mystery to man in the sence of the
objectio (?): on
what subject has our search got far beyond the surface ? who can explain
the modus
generandi or existandi of any subject ? non not the Proudest Philosopher
or most
arrogant Atheist that ever lived ?
we will now illustrate what we mean by essence: subsistance or Person
on which we
have (paid or laid) so much stress in explaining this doctrine ? every human
being is
comp
of soul body and spirit: here are three subsistances yet but one
human being ?
a rose bush is made up of the stem leaves and blossom: here also are three
hypostaces
although the essence be but one: and each subsistance is of the essence
of the rose
bush: yet each by itself is not the rose bush ? under all these modus generandi
existandi subsistances essence and hypostates Anderson

Since 1981, one of my goals has been to find one of the
Commentaries.
I've followed my illusive dream into several states, but each new lead
only ended
in disappointment. Recently, through descendants of Thomas
Jefferson
Hoodenpyl, Sr., (Herschell Whitlock Hoodenpyl and daughter Terry Hoodenpyl
Dana), I found Carolyn Carr Zimmerman. Carolyn and I exchanged
e-mails
and soon an envelope arrived filled with Hoodenpyl research. As
I hurriedly read
each document, my eyes fell on a page that seemed to be in regard
to the Holy Bible.
My heart literally skipped a beat
and my pulse quickened for somehow I KNEW I
was holding copies of that wondrous treasure for which I had long searched.
Carolyn did not forewarn me 'what' she was sending, only
that she was
sending some things...and they are UNBELIEVABLE THINGS, most of which are
now, or will soon appear on this site for everyone's viewing
pleasure.
Carolyn, your name is gratefully
added to our list of Hoodenpyl
researchers who have opened their files and hearts to share their
family 'fortunes.' Thank you seems trite but your generousity
has
overwhelmed us! You'll always have our everlasting
gratitude!
Summation
Each of us will determine our own personal interpretation of these pages
and well
we should. But the marvelous fact is, here before our eyes, these pages
penned by
our ancestor still survive. Can we not marvel at the self-discipline
he manifested to
leave some expression of his inner strength of purpose for his
children and grandchildren?

Excerpt from the Peter J. Norwood manuscript
in regard to the commentary:
"...Phillip having an educated and cultivated mind
was an omniverous reader and as his life
declined devoted his whole time to the study of the Bible with an eye single
to the discovery
of what he conceived to be the erroneous teachings of the Book of Books and
the theologians
of his day. He was very pronounced in opinions and expressions
and so engrossed was his
mind on this single subject that he
determined to spend the remainder of his years
in writing a commentary on the bible for each of his children, giving his
views
on what he termed the errors of the theologians in teaching and preaching.
So intent did he become on this task he set for himself, that he devoted
several years prior to
his death, to it to the exclusion of everything else. Even the approach
of the grim destroyer
found him at work and the pen was taken from his trembling
fingers a few hours before his
death. These books are a marvel of work with the pen, every letter
being as perfectly formed
as if printed by the best modern type and the labor to complete them must
have been very great.
The paper shows no evidence of having been ruled and few expert
penmen of the present day
could equal the work, and certainly for accuracy and neatness could not excel
it. These books
originally comprised some 100 to 150 pages each and have been partially preserved
by his
grandchildren...." August 1st, 1892. |
"This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people
which shall be
created shall praise the Lord."
