This year the Oswego Palladium Times is running a weekly spotlight of different Supermodified drivers which compete at the Oswego Speedway. DJ came up with the idea of adding it to the B & G site and once again, thanks to Dan, it`s another great addition anytime you can go in-depth and find out maybe even a little bit more of your favorite supermodified racer. Make sure you check back each week as we feature a different driver with the help of DJ. Thanks Dan! :)

Bob Goutermout has made every kind of race car he hs ever driven, go fast. He had countless wins when he drove the street stocks. He came to Oswego Speedway in the infancy of the limiteds, and put together one of the most impressive stat lines in the history of the class. He still ranks second in all time wins in the limiteds with 14 feature victories, tied for second in top five's at 39, and is third in all time limited points. Tack on a track championship in 1993, and a Limited Nationals win in 1995.
He made the leap to the supermodifieds in 1997, and has been one of the "big dogs" ever since. In just a short amount of time, he has racked up 10 supermodified feature wins, and more than twice as much top five's.
1999 saw Bob finished fifth in the point standings. Last year, he finished second in the points, just 63 behind Track Champion Greg Furlong. Bob and the Kerfien team had high hopes going into the 2001 season.
They started on a high note, as they picked up the victory on opening night. He grabbed the lead early, and went on for the victory. "Last year we finished second in points, this year we're going after the title, " Bob said. The track championship was something they wanted dearly. They appeared to be on a good course for it, even after week 2, as they brought the 77 home in fifth.
Something started to go terribly wrong after that. A trip into the fourth turn wall in week 3, then the next week he was caught up in the big 20 car wreck in the first turn the next week hurt his chances at the title. Two weeks ago the 77 again took a fourth turn wall shot, then last week he was involved in the late race, four car wreck in the third turn. "We've wrecked the 77 three times, and the 93 once," he said. "It's been a tough year. I've had four crashes, a top five and a win. We've had to spend a lot of time and money on fixing race cars. It's not easy at times like this to keep my chin up. Then once they are fixed, they aren't going to be top cars. It takes a little time to get them where they were."
He is a two time winner of the Mr. Supermodified race, his biggest two wins of his supermodified career. But Classic Weekend is ahead, and Bob looks to turn around his sub par year, and have a great run in the 200.
"We've been looking ahead to the Classic for the past few weeks, " Bob said. "That's what we're gunning for now. We're focused on that, and we'll be putting all our effort in for that race."
Don't look for the 77 or 93 pitside this Saturday. Matter of fact, Bob won't even be at the track. A weekend relaxation trip away with the family is planned. The cars will be in the garage this weekend, put away and in one piece. They had a good run last week in the 45 lap Nostalgia night. A fine fifth place finish went along way in restoring the smiles in the Kerfien pit area. Best of all, the car was in one piece. It can be tweaked, instead of fixed. They have a baseline to go from this week, instead of spending hours upon hours repairing a bent up race car.
Bob is a 41 year old, heavy equipment operator by trade. Wife Terri, and kids Tracie and Robert Jr., put their support behind the team. Darcey, Don Jr and Sr, Bob and Tom Kerfien, Vicky Shaw, Robert Goutermout Jr, Jamie Petty, Mike Coant, and Jake Heer, will have the car race ready tonight, and have done a very good job of maintaining a two car stable.
Darcey's Collision, Kerfein Mobile Home Park, Triple D Bus Repair, G&M Machine and Tool, Lights Auto Parts(NAPA), National Association of Government Employees(AFL-CIO) Babcock Highway Supply and Lettering, and the International Brotherhood of Police Officers are the sponsors of the 77/93 racing Team.
The team is one of the top teams at Oswego Speedway. They have a proven record, and are a threat to win anytime wither the 77 or 93 hits the race surface. They hope that their rough spell is over, and the outlook appears bright. They a have had a tough year, but are too good of a team to keep down. Once the ship gets totally righted, a note to the competition. Beware. They will have some overdue bills to collect on.
