Welcome to the Bridge...owned and operated
by the Prete family for over forty-seven years.
In 1934,construction of the twin highway bridges across the newly-widened Cape Cod Canal resulted in the establishment of the Bridge Cafe. Connecting roadways made it necessary for a former three-aparment residence to be cut in half and moved.
In 1935,one half became the Bridge Cafe, which was awarded the first liquor license, after the repeal of Prohibition, in the Town of Bourne.
Under the able ownership of Gussie and Laide Ansaloini, the Italian restaurant prospered. The advent of world War II and the dramatic development of Camp Edwards on Otis Air Force Base saw some wild and hectic days in Sagamore at the Bridge.
In 1953 with the purchase of the Bridge from close friends, Settimo and Teresa Prete continued the family's three-hundred year-old tradition of the restaurant and lodging business. In 1957 we found our gem, Helen Trout, who introduced her now famous Yankee Pot Roast and other New England specialties.
As the Bridge continued to grow in popularity, the kitchen was remodeled in 1957, and the original dining room was expanded in 1964.
Sam And Tessie's three children -Eddie, Sandra and Charlie, and his wife Pon - assumed growth paralledled the economic explosion of the Cape region, and in 1986 a total reconstruction of the restaurant was completed.
Today, our commitment remains strong - to serve delicious food, to provide cheerful, friendly service, and to create a comfortable atmosphere - all at affordable prices. We welcome your comments and suggestions to help us better serve you.
Buon Appetito!
