History of CT20 Ensemble

The CT20 Ensemble was created in 1987 by company members Ted Koch, Sara Nichols, Paul Stroili, Laura Koch, and Kevin Theis.

Shortly after the formation of the company, CT20 mounted it's first production--John Patrick Shanley's Welcome to the Moon at the Broadway Arts Center in Chicago.

The following January, CT20 competed in the First Annual Bailiwick Directors Festival with an entry written and directed by Kevin Theis entitled Make-Up and was among the winners of a "Best of the Fest" citation.

Next, the company tackled Samuel Beckett in a highly successful production of Waiting for Godot, directed by Peter Cieply, which ran for three months at the Cafè Voltaire.

CT20's crowning achievement, however, was the 1994 production of Thomas Heywood's The Fair Maid of the West. Adapted and directed by Kevin Theis, Fair Maid opened to blockbuster reviews and enjoyed a four month run at the Theatre Building. The cast featured ensemble members Sara Nichols (as Bess Bridges) and Ted Koch (as Goodlack). The Joseph Jefferson Committee nominated the show for eight "Jeffs", including Best Production, Best Ensemble and Best Director. To access reviews for Fair Maid, click here!

In 1996, CT20 produced a revival of Lyle Kessler’s Orphans, which opened on August 12th and ran for eight weeks. Once again, the show received a nomination by the Jeff Committee for Best Production of 1996, and for Direction (Steve Scott). In June of 1997, two of the actors in the show (Ted Koch and Rick Peeples) both received Jeff citations for Actor in a Principal Role. The production was directed by Steve Scott and featured Ted Koch as Treat, Kevin Theis as Phillip and Roderick Peeples as Harold. Click here to view Orphans Reviews.

We are currently planning a fall production for 1997…..to be decided!
