I have resided in Martinez/Augusta, Ga, Charleston, SC, Fairfax, VA and now have been living in Atlanta, Ga for 13 years. I am a Computer Systems Engineer.

(Leonhard Mockh, councilor at Ravensburg, Germany, Wurtemburg Duchy, Coat of Arms presented at Innsbruck, Austria by Kaiser Ferdinand I ,on March 29, 1563 )

( Michael Von Moack (also spelled Mock, Moeck and Mogk) was the Burgermeister of Ravensburg, Germany , a decendant of Leonard Moack. Ducal coronet was added to coat-of-arms to indicate nobility by Kaiser Ferdinand II at Regensburg, Germany February 18, 1623. The Moack family during this time lived in the Palatinate (Wurtemberg-Baded-Baden) one village, Mockmuhl (Moak's Mill) carried the family name. Several members of the family, using the Mockmuhl name married into the Hohenlohe family). Nearly one million Wurttemberggers were killed during the 30 years war. Many Wurttemberggers, including the nobility and the Duke of Wurttemberg,escaped to Switzerland . During that time the Palatinate was fought over and variously controlled by the Holy Roman Empire, France, and Spain)

Andrew Moak
(Andrew Moak and family left Swit
erland, arrived on the British ship St. Andrew (Captain Stedman) at Charleston, SC between 1737-1741. He served as an indentured servant at Fountain Bleu Plantation until 1745 to pay for passage from Europe for himself, his wife and three children. Then was given a land grant of 250 acres at Saxe-Gotha (near the site of the Old Congaree fort, just across the Congaree River from present day Columbia, SC) by the Royal Governor's Council of South Carolina at Charleston on December 7, 1745. Andrew's land grant (50 acres per person ) was next to Jacob Theiler. Additionally, Andrew bought a strip of land from Jacob Theiler to provide access to the Congaree River (aka Broad River).

George Ervin Hughes (b. July 6, 1818 died Aug 1, 1884 age 66) married Anne (last name unknown d. June 6, 1869) . Both buried at Lebanon Methodist Church cemetery, Neeses, SC.

Children:
1) Elliott Hughes (b. 5/25/1840 d 7/9/ 1907) married Lovania (Lovey) Smoak (b 1815; daughter of David Smoak ).
2) Morgan Hughes (born 1846, was living with John W. Smoak and wife Lovania Smoak Hughes as of the 1860 census)
3) VastInez Hughes (born 1851, was living with John W. Smoak and wife Lovania Smoak Hughes as of the 1860 census)
4) Cornelius Hughes , (born 1853, was living with John W. Smoak and wife Lovania Smoak Hughes as of the 1860 census)

Elliott Hughes of Pine Hill (Orangeburg county), SC was a Confederate private in Hampton's Legion, he joined at Camp Hampton, SC on Oct 15, 1861. He served under Captain McCord and was injured at Lookout Valley, Tennessee on Oct 28, 1863. He was paid 33 cents a day wages as a private.

Elliott Hughes (born 1840) married Harriet Henrietta Jeffcoat (born May, 1845) Her brother is believed to be L.W. Jeffcoat, Elvira was born 6/11/1819, died 7/5/1887 and her tombstone at Lebanon Methodist Church states she "was the loving wife of L.W. Jeffcoat and that Her memory will be a guiding star to Heaven").

They were farmers at Pine Hill, SC (Orangeburg County).

Elliott Hughes of Pine Hill (Orangeburg county), SC was a Confederate private in Hampton's Legion, he joined at Camp Hampton, SC on Oct 15, 1861. He served under Captain McCord at the battle of Chickamauga and was shot in the leg at Lookout Valley, Tennessee on Oct 28, 1863. He was hospitali
ed in Richmond, Virginia. He was paid 33 cents a day wages as a private. When the Civil War ended, Elliott walked home to SC from Appomattox Court House,Virginia.
He was remembered as quite a jolly and brave character . According to my grandmother, when the Earthquake of 1888 hit, he is quoted as saying "Let Her Rip!!!"
Their children : Thomas E. Hughes (b. 1866 d. 3/28/ 1940) married Abigail Bailey, lived at Windsor, SC.
Children: Sons : Stanley, David , Orie Of Windson and Deenie Hughes of Augusta, GA.
Daughters: Mrs M.N. Younce of Aiken, SC, Queenie Hughes of Augusta, Mary Hughes of Windsor.

sons : Reverend Lewis Metts of Valdosta, GA, Donald Haskell Metts, and Joseph Phillip Metz

Lloyd J. Hughes (b. 1888) married Della Mae Bonnett (Aunt Della died playing "leaning on the ever lasting arms" during a sunday service at the Pine Hill Methodist Church, Pine Hill, SC (Orangeburg county)

Their children: five sons : L.G., Dana , Ray, Al, and Malcolm Hughes, also three daughters : Mrs. J. E. Copeland of Orlando, FL, Mrs. R. D. Davis and Miss Lillian Hughes.

(Note: Addie and Abigail Bailey's sister Armenia (d. 6/25/1954) married G.W. Hughes a cousin of John Morgan Hughes, and lived in Windsor, SC. Her children include Mrs. J.W. "Annie" Dorn (who raised Addie's step-daughter, Nellie Hughes in North Augusta, SC) , Grover Hughes (who with wife Lillian lived at Park Circle in Charleston, SC, and W.B Hughes.)

Addie had two daughters ( Lou Belle Gleaton (b. 1901) and Leila Gleaton (b.1904) ) by her first marriage to Samuel Gleaton.

Lou Belle Gleaton married Frank Doyle Thompson and had three daughters : Dolly Garrick, Ouida Chavis, and Mildred Lackey.

Leila Gleaton married Willie Harvey Kemmerlin and had seven children :Roy Kemmerlin, Jack "Doc" Kemmerlin, Ha
el Kemmerlin, Johnnie Kemmerlin, Harry Kemmerlin , Leslie Kemmerlin and Barbara Kemmerlin Beard.

(Daniel, John and Phillip Keller are noted as early embers of the Calvanistic Church of St. John on the Four Hole, in 1788. They were given land at Four Holes, which they named "Course Hill"
for their military service during the American Revolution.)

After John's death at 32 from Pneumonia, Elizabeth
had to put her children in the Orphanage and make a living sewing. The Panic of 1900 caused the Banker's Trust of Charleston to close - which took all of her money ($30,000.00). She later remarried to William Howard and had one son Melvin Howard. She and William started the West-End Dairy in Charleston. It was sold when she died in 1920.)
