Alvin "Little Pink" Anderson

Hello. I am Alvin "Little Pink" Anderson, son of the Piedmont Bluesman Pink Anderson. February 12, 2000 marked 100 years in the blues for my family. I am proud to continue the Legacy.

I welcome you to the history of our music. The Piedmont Blues is a creation of street & medicine show performers. The theory was to bring about a smile on the faces of the people who took time to stop and listen to the music. If the music made them happy, it would loosen the change in their pockets. Five, ten, twenty-five, fifty cents per person added up to a fair living.

As a child, I enjoyed Medicine Shows. We traveled from city to city. We were in a lot of small towns following carnivals and fairs. We sold Snake Oil, which is a medicine that cures all illness: arthritis, headaches, backaches, bad knees and so on. If something was wrong with you, Snake Oil cured you!

My acoustic shows have been said to have a feel that takes you back to the front porch of 250 South Forest St., where my father and the old guys met and played their music: the Blues.

On the left is a photograph of my father and I on one of his album covers. Samuel Charters also made a short film of the two of us.

There is another side to Little Pink; the side where he brings an energy to the stage that's unsurpassed. The strong soulful voice that has the sweetness of a ripe Carolina Peach. With a guitar that seems to have been born in his hands and screams from the deep hollows of the Blues. That's when you see and feel Little Pink; the little boy all grown up and living his music as only he can.

"If the name Pink Anderson rings a bell, it’s probably because Syd Barrett borrowed half of it when he named Pink Floyd." (Bill Dahl, Chicago Reader, June 2000) Check out the tributes to Pink Anderson by his son and others at the Chicago Blues Festival 2000.
