About The Therapist and the Practice
Hi! My name is Lynn Rittenberg Kauffman. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, A Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional. I have more than 20 years' experience as a credentialed clinician.
I am on several health insurance/managed care panels, including but not limited to Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO, CCN, PHCS (used by Principal Life, CoreSource, Guardian and others), Wellmark,Humana PPO, Managed Health Network, etc. Additionally, most PPO plans will reimburse its members for services provided by Licensed Clinical Social Workers, whether in-network or out-of network. However, if you don't have insurance, prefer not to use your insurance, or have limited insurance, my rates are extremely fair and affordable.
I work with adults of all ages. I specialize in working with depression, trauma (past or recent), panic disorder (panic attacks), anxiety, grief/bereavement, addictions, ACOA (Adult Children of Alcoholics), PTSD (post traumatic Stress Disorder), anger management, and career issues. I utilize an eclectic approach, matching the technique to the client and the issue, but I have extensive background and training in cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a technique that is highly effective for dealing with trauma, guilt, and blockages).
I work particularly well with clients who are undergoing transitions, have career issues, have experienced recent or childhood trauma, suffer from panic attacks, have spiritual or metaphysical belief systems; have holistic views of health and medicine, or have addictions-related issues including Adult Children of Alcoholics.

My Office Location and Office Hours
My office is in the WICKER PARK (East Village) neighborhood of Chicago (near Bucktown, Ukranian Village, River West, and West Loop), at the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Damen. It is easily accessible via the Eisenhower Expressway or the Kennedy Expressway, yet is just west and north of the "Loop" and conveniently located to public transportation. On-street meter parking is easy to find, just bring a few quarters for "meter food".
Office Hours for new clients are by appointment on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday including evening hours. Limited Saturday appointments are available for established clients. My Phone number is (773) 506-4567. Leaving a message on my voice mail automatically activates my pager. I will get back to you as soon as I am available. All messages are completely confidential.

My Philosophy
I offer clients tools to change based on a non-judgmental compassionate approach derived from over 20 years experience in Social Work, Psychotherapy, Addictions, and Employee Assistance Counseling.
My approach is very practical with problem resolution as the primary goal. My style is based on respect and empowerment of my clients and my belief in self-determination. Treatment goals with estimated time frames must be mutually agreed to, and are based on the client's stated objectives of what they want to achieve in therapy and life. Whenever applicable, treatment will be solution-focused with a primary goal of symptom relief.
Choosing the right therapist is an important decision. A great deal of what makes therapy effective is the right chemistry between client and therapist. Therefore, I encourage you to call for a free telephone consultation before taking this important step.
