Ellan Vannin
Manx Gaelic for Isle of Man
"The Island is centrally located between England, Ireland,
Scotland and Wales. In fact it's in the middle of a line drawn from Lands End to
John O'groats, the most northerly and southerly points in mainland Britain. The
Island is named after the ancient sea god Mannanan. As with the Greek 'Poseidon' and
Latin 'Neptune', Mannanan is often depicted holding a triskelion or three pointed spear.
Perhaps this is the true origin of the Manx three legs symbol as seen on the
island's flag. It is, in it's various forms, a very ancient and universal symbol and
was used to signify the unity of the truine - the spirit of Three in One, an evolutionary
principle much older than Christianity."
