Massoud Remembered
Massoud Remembered
On Septermber 9, 2002 in Kabul, a memorial was held for Ahmed Shah Massoud. His thirteen year old son, Ahmed, addressed the thousands gathered there most eloquently. The boy said, "The enemies thought that by killing my father, the hero Ahmed Shah Massoud, they could kill his dreams. They didn't know that Massoud was more than just a mortal. He was an idea, a vision."

When Hamid Karzai and the rest of the new Afghan government was sworn into office in December 2001, an enormous banner of Ahmed Shah Massoud was used as a backdrop.
Father and son
I give you this,
one word to keep -
I am with you still,
I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints in the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle, autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's blush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight;
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not think of me as gone;
I am with you still
in each new dawn.
