EDWARD TINSLEY 1700-1782 the son of Thomas Tinsley and Sarah JACKSON, and his wife Margaret TAYLOR b- 1705 - d- before 1782, the daughter of James Taylor.

BENNET TINSLEY son of Isaac, was born in 1779 in Amherst Co. VA. married 9/3/1802 in Cumberland Co. VA to Permelia HENDRICKS who was born in 1789 VA and died after 1860 Alleghany Co. VA. Bennet died 4/12/1853 in Alleghany Co. VA. leaving a will. pps 100-101
(no book) June 1853 Term of Court, Alleghany Co. VA

This will names wife Permelia and six sons, Roderick M., William I., Martin D., Edmund P., Madison S., and Obediah H., a deceased daughter Frances H. Bibb and lawful heirs of Marthy Y. Ray and Acenith S. Shumaker.

In the 1850 Alleghany Co. Census, Bennet and Permelia have three of their children still in the household, William 32, Edmond 24 and Roderick 34 with his wife and four of their children.

Obediah, Madison and Martin had come to Kanawha County W(VA). Obediah in late 1830's, he and Madison are seen in the 1850 census, and Martin not till 1860.

Madison Tinsley 1805 - after 1870- son of Bennet and Permelia HENDRICKS Tinsley, was born in Amherst Co. VA. He married Sarah SHORT 12/5/1835 in Botetourt Co. VA , She was the daughter of Joel and Nancy Jane RIGGS Short. They were in Kanawha Co. WV by 1840. In the 1870 Census they were in the Jefferson Dist. (St.Albans?)

They lived in the Rockey Fk area near Charleston, WV.


Martin D. Tinsley son of Bennet Tinsley and Permelia HENDRICKS b- Dec. 1821 Amherst Co. VA and died after 1900, m-Eliza Jane ( ? ) abt 1856. They were in the 1860 1870 1880 & 1900 census of Kanawha County, in the Union Dist. Tyler Mt. area. Only know of one child listed Charles O. S. b-1857, must have died young.

Obediah Tinsley was born March 17, 1814 and died June 28, 1883 in Kanawha County WV. He was married twice in Kanawha County, first to Elizabeth PATTERSON 1/6/1841, believe her father was William, and #2 to Susan FIGGATT 9/1/1846 her parents Henry and Susan ( ? )

Children of of Obediah and Elizabeth PATTERSON:

2. Elizabeth 1846-1916, never married,

Elizabeth the mother, may have died in child birth to daughter Elizabeth, because Obediah married again in five months, later to Susan FIGGATT. Susan was born Feb. 10, 1826 and died Jan. 5, 1909.

WILL OF OBEDIAH TINSLEY
1814-1883


In the name of God, I Obediah H. Tinsley, of Kanawha County West Virginia, being of sound and disposing, mind on every word, under- standing do make this to be my last Will and Testament as follows (that is to say my desire is to be buried with as little expense as decency will permit and that all my debts and funeral espenses be paid as soon after my decease as conveniently may be.)

First, I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Susan Tinsley in Testimony of my sincere regard and affection for her, the one third of all my real and Financial Estate as long as she may live.

Secondly, I give and bequest unto my daughter Elizabeth Tinsley the tract of land I obtained for her from the estate of John Patterson deceased, containing sixty-five acres as I have paid all the taxes in the same for her up to this time. I have considered that share given her the said Elizabeth Tinsley her full share with my other children in my Real Estate.

Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my eight children namely, Henry M. Susan P. and Obedia W. Eli H., James A., Jefferson M., George P. Tinsley, all of my financial estate be equally divided among my nine children.

Firstly, I give unto my Two Granddaughters, Lyda A. and Carrie S., heirs of the body of my son Edmund B. Tinsley (deceased), both minors in addition to what I have already given the sum of Fifty dollars each to be paid them respectively upon their attaining the age of Twenty-one years.

I desire that on the division of my real estate that the portion of my son Henry M. Tinsley as of arranged and laid off to include his dwelling house, and orchard, the house and the orchard not be taken in the valuation, the land only, and that all the eight last named children to have the same privilage of any of them, hold and guard an orchard.

I nominate and appoint as the executor of this my last will and Testament, three persons not interested, said three persons to be selected by my oldest son living at the time of my decease, and that the county surveyor be one of the three persons chosen as above shall be called together by said Justice and that they shall divide my real estate equally among my eight last named children, that is Henry M., Susan P., Obediah W., Eli H. James A., Jefferson M., Levi C., and George P. Tinsley.

And to divide my personal estate equally among my nine children and the said executor whoever they may be, shall make a final settlement of all my effects among my children, and return the same to the Clerks Office, of the County Court of the County. And in the division of my Personal Estate all of my nine Children shall share equally those that I have already given money and other property I have charged it to them, so that the other children may be made equal to them on the Settlement, by the executor of my last Will and Testament.

And with upon to this my Last Will and Testament, I have set my hand seal, this is the 19th day of December 1881.

WILL OF SUSAN (FIGGATT) TINSLEY
1826-1909

In the Name of God Amen: I, Susan S. Tinsley of Kanawha County W. VA., being of sound mind and disposing memory, do hereby make and constitute this to be my last will and testament.

After the payment of my funeral expenses and all other lawful debts I give and bequeath to my daughter Susan P. Tinsley my grandaughter, Mary May Tinsley, & my stepdaughter, Elzabeth Tinsley to share and share alike, all my property consisting of Household & Kitchen furniture, Farming Untensils, Hogs and Sheep and all other property of which I shall dispose.

And I do hereby make, consitute and appoint James A. Tinsley to be executor of this my Last Will and Testament.

I, W. S. Mottesheard a Notary Public in and for the county and state aforesaid to certify that Susan S. Tinsley whose name is signed to the foregoing writing bearing date the 7th day of December, 1898, has this day acknowledged the same before me in my said County. Given under my hand this 7th day of December 1898.

At a Special Session of the County Court of Kanawha County, continued and held for said County at the Court House thereof on Saturday the 16th day of January A. D. 1909.

A paper writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Susan S. Tinsley deceased late of said County was this day presented to the Court for probate and the same having been duly proven by the oaths of Israel Fogart and R. H. Bailey attesting witnesses thereto the same is duly probated and orderd to be recorded and filed as, and for the last Will and Testament of decedent.

And James A. Tinsley having been nominated in said Will as Executor of same said nomination is hereby confirmed by the court.

Thereupon the said James A. Tinsley together with Israel Fogart his surety entered into and acknowledged a Bond in penalty of $100.00 conditioned according to law and took the oath recquired by law. On motion of said Executor Israel Fogart, Wm. Figgatt and R. H. Bailey were duly appointed as praisers to appraise the personal estate of said decedent after first being duly sworn according to law and make report according to law.

Henry M. Tinsley was born 1/2/1848 died 1/17/1908, married 1/15/1872 Kanawha County to Sarah Catherine Carbine, and #2 Blanch MILLARD 7/22/1907. Sarah born about 1850 in Ireland, died 3/23/1899 Kanawha Co. WV. Catherin's parents were Martin and Sarah Catherin ( ? ).

Obediah William Tinsley was born 1852/53 his death after 1900--, married Sallie E. GILLISPIE abt 1871 they were in the 1880 Kanawha County Census, have no futher information.

Edmund B. Tinsley born about 1855 and died between 1880-83, married Martha CARY 12/3/1878 the daughter ( I believe ) of James and Lucinda ? . Two known children:

a. Lydia A. 1880 m-L. M. ?Eutsinger
b. Carrie S. 1882

There was a Martha Tinsley that married a L. Martin of Putnam Co. 9/2/1885 in Kanawha Co.
It is possible that this is a second marriage for Martha CARY Tinsley.

Eli H. Tinsley was born abt 1857 and d- 3/26/1933 m- Elizabeth COFFMAN 7/9/1884. Elizabeth's death between 1894 -1900. Eli had a second marriage, to Emma Nelson 8/3/1910 Kan.Co. WV.

There were seven known children to first marriage.

James Andrew Tinsley was born Jan. 17, 1859 and died Feb. 26, 1944. He married Maggie R. CONEY 6/23/1888 the daughter of George & Elizabeth DUDDING Coney. Maggie died March 22, 1903.

b. Herbert Criffee 8/5/1891 - 1/1970 m Lula MARTIN 12/23/1911

The two Martin girls were sisters, daughters of William E. & Mary C. ( ? ) Martin

Jefferson Monroe Tinsley was born between 1862-65, and died 1/26/1926. He married Mary E. BOWEN 9/31/1885.

Levi C. Tinsley 5/3/1863 - 1/1946 married Maggie A. BURFORD 9/6/1883, she was born about 1862, and died 1935. Her parents were James Cartwright & Mary M. GILLISPIE Burford.

b. Flemming 1886 m-5/1/1913 -Estella CASDORPH, 1887 - 12/14/1962.
