Welcome to our little corner of the
web!!
all about?
Our mission is to provide
information and compassionate support to victims of ON/AVN (Osteonecrosis,
or Avascular necrosis as it was sometimes called), and to help educate everyone
about AVN. From a tiny handful of members on AOL, our group grew in size
to now encircle the world and is an officially recognized support group by
the National Osteonecrosis Foundation
(NONF), as well
as recognized by many other fine medical and other associations, universities,
and self-help organizations. Likewise,
we support the NONF in their efforts to raise money for research and
education.
With members from more than 23 countries, we
will continue to reach and help as many people as we can whose lives were
interrupted by this devastating bone disease.
Just as importantly, our compassion extends
to the families and loved ones of ON victims, and all are invited to join
us in our battle against ON, the "Silent Destroyer" of our precious bones.
We hope that by our calling attention to ON, that medical communities all
over the world will take more notice of it and help us to receive the proper
care and attention that we so urgently need.
Also invited to join us are victims of other bone
and joint diseases as well, since most of our membership has a multitude
of skeletal and muscular problems. We hope you find peace here in these
pages...and some food for thought, and even laughter. As of March 1, 2005,
we became a real, nonprofit organization an can be found at our new domain,
osteonecrosisavnsupport.org

Osteonecrosis (ON), also known as Avascular necrosis
(AVN), is a very serious bone disorder in which the affected bones or joints
actually die. Many of us in our support group have lost joints to this disease,
and all of us with ON suffer great pain, limitation and loss of quality of
