Belfour will not play for the rest of the season due to a bulging disk in his back. He has always had problems with his back, and feels this is the best time to fix the problems. Due to the fact that San Jose will not be in the playoffs. He wants to be healthy and ready to play for next year. Belfour will be a free agent as of July 1, 1997.
