Welcome to Rainbow Wind Rainbow Wind is a group for Lesbigay Pagans and their friends. It was formed
in the summer of 1995 as a response to three needs: 1) the need of Pagans to
develop a greater sense of connectedness with the Pagans community, 2) the
need to define the frequently undefined role of Lesbigays and trangendered
people in Paganism, and 3) the need to respond to the wave of attacks on
Lesbigays, TGs, and Pagans by the radical Christian fundamentalists who have gained
great influence over both the Republican and Democrat parties.
The group that came together for meetings has been inactive for a while. Some of the local leaders relocated, and the members left had
other concerns demanding their time. During that time, however, the Path of the Personal Divine, became
legally incorporated, and several of the members (including myself and my partner) continue to be active
in the community in one form or another.
Our country has descended further into theocracy than anyone imagined. President George W. Bush has stated publicly that Wicca is not a
"real religion". Tax money is being given to religious organizations, mostly Christian ones. "Diversity" and “Progressive” have become
dirty words in campaign rhetoric. Announcing that one is a Christian has become a license to treat others badly.
The Religious Right continues its attempts to force its religion down the throats of others. Its campaign in 2004 to deny same-sex couples
any domestic benefits (through marriage or civil unions) paid off with eleven states amending their
constitutions and the election of (mostly Republican) candidates who promised to advance their agenda.
They are continuing to apply pressure in other states for anti-marriage amendments, but have added some
new goals: barring gays and lesbians from adopting or becoming foster parents, and destroying any form
of tolerance that pops up in public schools.
Rainbow Wind has resurfaced in the form of an activist e-list and blog with updates on Pagans and LBGTs across the country.
This sort of networking is desperately needed right now. Pagans need to become more politically aware and
active! We hope that through our website, e-mail list, and our personal contacts, that we can inform and
encourage Pagan involvement in the political process. If you have ideas on how this can be accomplished,
or ways of increasing public respect for Pagans, please join us.
