The Guilford Militia
Congratulations to our own Kathleen Stickel, who graduated from UNC-Charlotte on Saturday, December 18, 2004!  She started hanging out with us when Fred joined, and although she now occasionally chooses the dark side of the British, we are all VERY proud of her!  Maybe now that she's eddicated, she'll come back to the Patriot cause full time!
Congratulations to our own Heather MacKenzie, who graduated from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington on December 11, 2004 ... which also happened to be her 23rd birthday! She's been attending Guilford Militia events since she was six, and she makes her parents VERY proud!

*Events are Official Events and count toward membership requirements.
It is likely that this schedule will be added and amended to throughout the year.  If you
become aware of events that do not conflict with our official schedule that you think some of
the membership might have an interest in, please let me know.

As most of you have by now heard, in early December 2004 the Hoggatt House at the High Point Museum was a victim of a lightning strike, and was severely damaged by the resulting fire.  According to the Museum, it was about a 50% loss, which may have been far worse had not a passerby called the fire department shortly after it started (around 3 AM).  Barbara Taylor tells us that they expect to have the building fully restored by mid 2005 -- no small feat, considering the damage.  If you would like to contribute to the building fund, you may help by calling the High Point Museum at 336-869-1859.

Another lightning strike of sorts struck the Guilford Militia when Col. Jim Campbell announced at the Veteran's Day event at Guilford Courthouse that he would be retiring from command at the end of the year.

Col. Campbell took over as commanding officer shortly before I joined the unit in 1988, and I know I speak for the entire unit when I tell him that while someone else may take over command, NO ONE will take his place.  It has been a joy, Jim, and we appreciate you more than you will ever know.   I know you will still be in the hobby, but our unit is less without you at the helm.  Thanks for being such an important part of our hobby, for being a friend, for being a leader, and for being a respected man of God.
