SHEET METAL WORKERS' - ALBANY, NEW YORK
Local Union #83 of the Sheet Metal Workers’ was chartered on April 1st 1920. Local #83 represents over 400 highly skilled sheet metal workers covering fifteen counties in New York State. In addition to this, we have access to at least 180,000 members who are affiliated with our International Association. There is no project that we cannot cover with very well trained craftspeople.
Local #83 supplies qualified mechanics and apprentices to over 30 local contractors who perform all facets of sheet metal work including, but not limited to: heating, ventilating, skylights, cornice work, lockers, spiral or oval duct, kitchen equipment and testing and balancing systems.
Our contractors and our local union are highly respected for their quality of workmanship and their safety awareness. Again and again we have brought projects in on time and under budget. We have earned this reputation honestly and we take great pride in each and every job we do.
We have a five year apprenticeship program where our apprentices get 890 hours of intensive training along with day-to-day on the job work experience under a qualified supervisor: Local #83 also has advanced training and refresher courses that we offer to our mechanics to up-grade their skills. We also have mandatory safety training courses which cover the OSHA 10 hour training, lead and asbestos awareness and welding and burning safety. Local #83 promotes a drug-free work place policy. All of our applicants for apprenticeship have to go through a drug screening, and pass, to be allowed into our program.
Our commitment to training, re-training, safety and drug awareness translates into quality craftsmanship, efficiency and productivity on the job site. Using union contractors on your project will insure that you have dependable, competent craft people who will work together to get your job done on time and under budget.
