This page is dedicated to the C-130 HERCULES and the men and women who fly and have flown them through the years.
Do you like fiction, especially fiction about C-130s? If you do - or if you'd like to find out more about the most continually exciting C-130 mission of the Vietnam War - Blind Bat - buy a copy of my recently published novel The Cave. It tells the story of a young C-130 loadmaster who is shot down over Laos and evades the North Vietnamese. Go to THE CAVE for ordering information.
If you were a part of the first 20 years of C-130 ops, go to HERKYBIRDS to chat.
If you are a troop carrier/tactical airlift vet, you're invited to join the Troop Carrier/Tactical Airlift Association! Visit our web site at www.troopcarrier.org/home.html.
Other Email Groups:

On June 25, 1968 an all-lieutenant crew commanded by Lt. Pat Hatch landed their shot-up C-130E at Tay Ninh, RVN. This is their website - Fire Flight at Katum RVN
The 317th Troop Carrier Wing achieved great things with their Herks while they were stationed at Evreux, France. Ed Merck has done an excellent job of sitting up their web site - Evreux Alumni Group. The 317th Consolidated Maintenance Squadron which supported them has also organized a veterans group. This is their site - 317th Veterans Group.
Lockheed's C-130 has enjoyed a long history. Read about the airplane and its many models here.
Pope AFB, North Carolina was once home to the 464th Troop Carrier Wing, a C-130 wing who wrote history with the HERCULES. The base has long been known as POPE PEA PATCH. In the mid-1960s we still flew close formation. Here are some pictures I took - Formation Flying
Operation DRAGON ROUGE was one of the most dramatic and exciting missions ever flown by USAF C-130 crews.
In the early-to-mid 1960s TAC fighter pilots and troop carrier crews at Sewart, Dyess, Pope, Langley, Lockbourne and Forbes referred to ourselves as TAC Trained Killers
The Blackbirds C-130 special operations mission originated at Pope when the 779th TCS equipped with C-130E(I) "Skyhook" airplanes in early 1966. Now known as Combat Talon , this is one of the most intriguing of all C-130 missions.
The AC-130 gunship is the most powerfully armed gunship ever to take to the skies. GUNSHIPS
The C-130 has done some sneaky things over the years. Read a little (but not very much) about them - EC's, RC's and DC's .
In 1969-70 I flew C-130 Bombers missions while with the 463rd TAW at Clark AB, PI. Read about Project Commando Vault.
AIRLIFT USA is the page I have dedicated to airlift. Included are links to airlift histories and other topics of interest to airlifters and aviation/military enthusiasts.
Blind Bat is my home page. It contains a lot of C-130 history as it involved Naha AB, Okinawa, the 6315th Operations Group/374th Troop Carrier Wing and the 315th Air Division. Some interesting C-130 missions, including the Blind Bat C-130 flare mission, are described here.
In May, 1966 two Tactical Air Command C-130 crews flew Operation Carolina Moon , a daring low-level attack on the most dangerous target in North Vietnam, the Thanh Hoa Bridge.
In 1965 the L-100 recieved FAA certification. The civilian version of the Herk is a familiar sight throughout the world today - Civilian Herks ,
