The (-1G), etc., indicates the number of generations before Erven Thoma

His mother, Emma Clark, was born in January 1876 in Lakeville, IN. Her father was Winfield Scott Clark who was born about Nov. 1850 in Butler County, OH. Emma's mother was Julia Ann Myers who was born about Feb. 1852 in Rockingham County, VA. (This paragraph of information comes from a database provided by Linda Mankowski on www.ancestry.com, accessed by searching on "Edmund Housekeeper". However another personal source calls Butler Co. incorrect.).

His parents were married 17 Sep. 1899 in St. Joseph, Berrien County, MI. His mother died 25 May 1906 in South Bend, IN.

The California Death Index, 1940-97, gives 1901 as the year Edmund was born. Also included on this index is his Social Security number, date of death, mother's surname, state of birth, and county of death. However his sister was born on 16 Feb. 1902, rendering the 1901 date for Edmund most unlikely. His death certificate and S. S. application both give the year 1900. This clarification was provided by Stefani Evans.

The last South Bend, IN Directory with his name was in 1919. I assume that after that he moved to Kansas City. There he worked for Sherwin-Williams Paint Co.

The 1918 Kansas City Dir. has a J. L. Housekeeper listed but I do not know his relationship to Edmund. The 1919 Dir. has a Fred Housekeeper but again I do not know his relationship to Edmund. No Housekeeper appears in the 1920 Kansas City Dir.

He married Rose Thoma (-1G) after 1920 in Kansas City.

The family has a story on Ed and Rose, much retold and probably innacurate in details but correct in its larger sense. Edmund was working as a janitor for Sherwin Williams Paint Company in Kansas City, MO, when he met Rose Thoma, secretary/assistant to one of the senior bosses. She saw the potential in Ed, and provided the opportunity for him to continue his education past its 8th grade level. Even though he was probably younger than she, they started dating and eventually married. Ed stayed with the company and at the time of his retirement was Vice President and General Manager of Sherwin Williams Paint Company. (This paragraph was quoted directly from Stefani Evans and used by permission.)

When he applied for his S. S. card (#487-05-7048) in 1936, he was still living in Kansas City. The 1900 birth date is given on this application.

They lived in Honolulu for a while ca 1965, but I do not know the exact dates or duration. Rosa applied for a S. S. card in 1965 while they were living in Honolulu. Eventually they lived in Oakland, CA. There Ed and his wife lived in a high-rise condominium complex overlooking Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA.

The picture of Ed's wife Rose taken after 1963. It is perhaps a photo intended for the newspaper's society page in Oakland. The picture of Edmund was taken as a result of his employment. Date is unknown. Click on the thumbnail graphic to see the full-sized picture.

Ed's wife's (Rose) death (1975) is recorded in the California Death Index.

They did not have children. Edmund died 13 Mar. 1980 and was cremated at the Mt. View Crematory in Oakland, CA.

Most all the information on this page, inc. the two pictures, was supplied by Stefani Evans. My great appreciation is extended to her.
