The (-2G), etc., after the names indicates the number of generations before Erven Thoma.
Her birth parents are unknown to me. They may have died before 1910. The Hiram Drennan family lived in Jackson township, Maries County, Missouri at the time of the 1880 Census (enum. dist. 98, page 130D, dated 11 June). The head-of-household is H. Drennan, 30 years old, born in Illinois. He is a farmer. His wife, Medora, is 23, born in Missouri. They had a 3 year old son, Edward. The other children have not yet arrived. The father, Hiram, was born in 1847 according to the cemetery lot monument. He was the son of Hinson and Hester Drennan of Macupin County, Illinois. He had an older brother, Hampton.

The grave monument gives her birth date as 04 Oct. 1880 but other sources produce the birth year of 1881 and 1882 and even Aug. 1883! The latter date and Indiana birth-state comes from the 1900 Census for Missouri (vol. 6, enum. dist. 16, sheet 14, line 91) |
| which shows an Earl family living in Bates County, Osage Township, in Rich Hill on Pine St. In this family there is a Hattie who is 16 years old. But the mother of this Hattie (Kate) was born in Ohio and the father is not present. In this Census listing there are two siblings: Gleen [Glenn?] (21) and Ruth (12). Kate might be a step-mother. But the state of birth for this Hattie is different than that seen in later Census. The date of birth given here for Hattie is Aug. 1883, which is a few years off from the date given on the monument. I have not found anything else in the 1900 Census for a Hattie Earl. |
The 1910 Fed. Census for Missouri (vol. 104, enum. dist. 211, dwelling 30, family 43, dated 11 Apr) shows Hatty Earl, 28 years old, born in Missouri; parents also born in Missouri. She is working as a waitress at a restaurant. She is also a live-in servant for the family of Joseph W. Bauer--he, his wife, and his two daughters. Joseph is the owner of a restaurant, perhaps the same one where Hatty is working. They are all living at 3307 Meramec in St. Louis (city) in ward 13.
Another 1910 Fed. Census sheet for St. Louis, MO.(supv. dist. 10, enum. dist. 162, page 10A, dwelling 157, family 247, dated 25 Apr.) shows a Hattie Earl living with the family of Hiram Drennan. They are living in ward 10 of St. Louis at 2909 Lemp Ave. Hattie is identified as the daughter; she is 29 years old and is divorced. She had no children. She was born in Missouri; her father in Illinois; her mother in Missouri. She is employed as a waitress in a restaurant. Hiram is a 63 year old, employed in bar works. He and his parents were born in Illinois. His wife, Madora, is 52 years old and is unemployed. She and her parents were born in Missouri. They have been married 34 years. Living with them is a son, Mose Drennan, a 26 year-old policeman, and another daughter, Dora Ousley, a 22 year-old waitress. Those children were also born in Missouri, their father in Illinois, their mother in Missouri. Dora was married for 3 years but has no children. Her husband is not listed even though Dora's status is "married".
Is "Earl" the surname of Hattie's divorced husband or is it her birth surname? Are Hiram and Madora her birth or foster or adoped parents? Do these two 1910 Census sheets refer to the same person? Did Hattie get counted twice--once on 11 Apr. and once on 25 Apr.?

The 1910 and 1911 St. Louis Directories list William Winge, motorman, living at 3125 Meramec.
 |
When William married Hattie Earl on 7 Aug. 1911, he was living at 3125a Meramec St. in St. Louis and was 28 years old. Hattie was living at 4220 Virginia Ave. in St. Louis and was 29 years old. |
| They were married by a Justice of the Peace in St. Louis. (license #166759; ledger vol. 75, page 485.). She had not been married before. Her name is given as Miss Hattie Earl although this is a correction on the application, written over whatever name was first written there. |
| Here is a Winge family picture taken about 1911. Hattie is the woman with my young father on her lap seated on our right side. William, her husband, with the bow tie, is seated next to her. William's father is also in the picture. |

The 1913 St. Louis Directory lists William Winge Jr., saloon, 3304 Meramec. The 1916 Directory shows William Winge Jr., saloon, 3100 Neosho. The 1917 Dir. does not list him.
She is listed in the 1920 (10 Jan.) Fed. Census for Missouri, (vol. 98, district 249, sheet 8, line 47, dated 10 Jan) with her husband. At this time she is 38 years old, born in Missouri of Missouri parents. He was age 36 and he was born in Missouri of German parents. They are living at 4527 Idaho Ave. in St. Louis. William's occupation is listed as carpenter of railroad cars; no occupation is given for Hattie.
I have not been able to locate Hiram and Madora Drennan in the 1920 Census for Missouri.
Hiram Drennan died in 1922 and is buried in New Marcus Cemetery, in the Drennan lot.
The St. Louis Directory of 1922 lists Wm. Winge, chauffeur, living at 3658 Park Ave. The 1924 Directory has a Wm. Winge, clk, r6433a Alabama Ave.
The St. Louis County Dir. for 1926 shows Wm. (Hattie) Winge, chauf, with a home at 7521 Folk Ave. in Maplewood. The 1928 Dir. for St. Louis County has William Winge, chauf., with a home at 7533 Folk Ave. in Maplewood. In the same directory, Hattie L. Winge is listed as a clerk. The 1930 County Dir. lists Wm. Winge, br. mgr., with a home at 7533 Folk Ave. in Maplewood. Hattie is not included.

The 1930 Fed. Census for Missouri (T626_1224, supv. dist. 8, enum. dist. 95-43, page 10A, lines 8-10, dated 08 Apr) lists William Winge, 44 years old, living in Maplewood, St. Louis County. He was born in Missouri of parents born in Germany. He occupation is chauffeur for a wholesale grocer. He was not a war veteran [though he did serve in the military]. Hattie is 45 years old, born in Missouri of parents also born in Missouri. Both were married at age 28. The ages given in the Census sheet do not match that obtained from calculations using the St. Louis Registry of Births, their marriage application and other records [William should be 46 and Hattie should be 46 or 47.] They own the house at 7533 Folk Ave. which is valued at $6,000. The household has a radio. Both William and Hattie are not in school but can read, write, and speak English. Living with them is a Maudare [?] Dressman who may be William's mother-in-law. She is 73 years old, born in Missouri of Missouri parents. She is a widow who was first married at age 19 but may have remarried [explaining the different surname from Hattie's maiden name].
The 1932 St. Louis County Dir. shows Wm. R. Winge (Hattie), assist. suprv., with a home at 7533 Folk in Maplewood. The 1934 County Dir. has the same information, except that he is a chauffeur. The 1936 County Dir. calls him a foreman but otherwise has the same information.
At the time (27 Nov. 1936) William applied for a Social Security number (#497-03-5505), he was working for Kroger Grocery and Baking Co. at 1311 S. 39th St. in St. Louis and was living at 7533 Folk.
The 1938 St. Louis County Dir. shows Wm. R. Winge (Hattie), clerk, with a home at 7533 Folk. The County Dir. of 1939 lists Wm. R. Winge, with wife Hattie, whsemn., living at 7533 Folk Ave. in Maplewood, MO. The 1941 County Dir. lists Wm. R. (Hattie) Winge, whsemn, with a home at 7529 Folk Ave. in Maplewood.
There were no children from this marriage.
Madora Drennan (née ?), widow of Hiram Drennan, died in 1943 and was buried in the Drennan lot in New St. Marcus Cemetery.
The 1946 County Dir. has Wm. R. (Hattie) Winge, employee at Kroeger's, with a home at 7533 Folk in Maplewood. The 1949 St. Louis County Dir. (Polk) shows the same information.

She died 27 Apr.1950 at age 68 at St. Luke's Hospital in and was buried on 29 Apr. 1950 in New St. Marcus Cemetery. She was buried on the lot with the Drennan family (block 15, lot 11, grave 3). I do not know her relationship with them. |
| There is one lot monument with all the names and dates, but no individual grave stones. Others buried on the lot are: Dora Drennan (1856-1943) (wife of Hiram), Hiram Drennan (1847-1922), Elizabeth M. Drennan (1883-1952) (wife of Mose?), and Mose H. Drennan (1883-1962) (son of Hiram). I have not seen Hattie's obituary yet. The death certificate gives Hiram Drennan as her father and Dora Brown as her mother and William R. Winge as her husband. She died of stomach cancer. The funeral home was Ambruster Mortuary, 6633 Clayton Rd. Burial was on 29 Apr. She had no S. S. number. Her home was 7533 Folk in Maplewood. The informant for the death certificate was her husband. |
| Here is the monument for the Drennan family graves in New Marcus Cemetery (block 15, lot 11. Hattie's grave is on the left (grave 3). Elizabeth, Dora, and Mose Drennan are on the other side of the monument. |

| Here is the image for her death certificate. |

--------------------------------
There is a Hattie Earl in St. Louis, born in 1881, who married a John M. Miller (son of Wm. and Melda, 1881-1960), and died in 1960. This is not the same person because our Hattie had not been married before marrying William Winge.
Her widowed husband, William R. Winge, married again in 1958 when he was ca. 75 years old! He died on 14 Feb. and was buried in Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis.
Mose Drennan, a son of Hiram and Madora Drennan, died in 1962 and was buried in the Drennan lot in New St. Marcus Cemetery. His wife, Elizabeth, died in 1952 and is also buried in that same lot.
Do not confuse her with her sister-in-law, Hedwig Winge (-2G) (1877-1967), who was William's sister and was called "Big Hattie"
