Her parents married ca 1886. They lost one child before June 1900. Daughter Frances L. Gutwald was born in Illinois in Apr. 1890.

Nellie Margaret Gutwald (-2G) was born in East St. Louis, IL on 28 Mar. 1894.

The 1900 Census for Illinois (T623_341, supv. dist. 15, enum. dist. 100, p. 13B line 100 and p. 14A lines 1-3, family 297, dated 08/09 June) shows Nellie M. Gutwald and her family living in ward 5 of East St. Louis, St. Clair County, IL. They are renting at 218 N. 3rd St. Her husband, Robert H. Gutwald, is a harnessmaker. He was born in June of 1863 and is 36 years old. He can read, write and speak English. He was born in Missouri; his parents in Austria. Nellie is 35 years old. She was born in 1864 in Missouri; her father in New York and her mother in Missouri. No occupation is given for Nellie but we can assume that it is housekeeper. They have been married 14 years and had three children, two of which are living. Daughter Frances L. is 10 and was born in April 1890 in Illinois. Daughter Nellie is 6 years old, born in Mar. 1894 in East St. Louis, IL. The girls are in school.

I have not found her or her parents in the 1910 Census. They may have died in Illinois.

Nellie married Theodore Winge on 27 Sept. 1917 in St. Louis. They were married by a Justice of the Peace. (license #214428; ledger vol. 87, p. 510). Both were 23 years old.

The 1918 St. Louis Directory shows Theo Winge (USA) with a residence at 5509a Virginia Ave. Although Ted was in the military at this time, Nellie was living at this address.

Although they were just married, Theodore was inducted into the Army on 3 Oct. 1917 at Marble Hill, MO. At the time he was living in Patton, MO. At induction he was 23-1/2 years old, born in St. Louis. He served in World War 1, serving overseas from 27 Aug. 1918 to 8 Mar. 1919, and was discharged in or after Aug. 1919. He was in Battery B336 FA up unto his discharge. He participated in no engagements, received no wounds, and was not disabled. His highest rank was Mess Sgt.; his Army serial number was 2.115.445.

Her husband, Theodore Winge (25 years old) is listed in the 1920 Census for Missouri (vol. 8, enum. dist. 8, sheet 3, line 14). He is living in Bollinger county with his father and mother. Nellie, the wife of Theodore, age 25 is also living there. This farm was located 12 miles outside of Fredricktown MO, in Union Township.

The 1922 St. Louis City Directory lists Nellie's husband, Theo. Winge, cabinet maker, living at 5605 Michighan Ave. But his father does not appear in this Directory, so I suppose he is still on the farm in Bollinger County. The 1924 St. Louis Directory shows Theo Winge, cabinetmaker, with a home at 3969 Burgen Ave. The 1925 Dir. has Theo Winge, carpenter, with a home at the same address. The 1926 Dir. has Theo. Winge, building contractor at 5242 Robert Ave. and living at 3969 Burgen Ave. The 1927 Dir. has the same information.

Nellie's in-laws left the farm before 1928 and moved back to St. Louis. Before then Nellie and Ted had moved back to St. Louis.

The 1930 Fed. Census for Missouri (roll T626_1240, enum. dist. 143, supv. dist. 8, sheet 27A, lines 35-38, dated 22 Apr. ) lists Theodore Winge and his family living at 5242 Robert St. in St. Louis (city ward 24, block 5826). He is 35 years old, born in Missouri, parents born in Germany. He was married at age 23. He is not in school but reads, writes, and speaks English. His occupation is carpenter. He served in World War 1. His wife, Nellie is 35 years old, born in Illinois, parents also born in Illinois. She was also married at age 23. She is not in school but reads, writes, and speaks English. No occupation is given for her. They own the home which is valued at $10,000. Their one daughter is 8 years old, was born in Missouri. She is in school. Their other daughter is 11 months old, born in Missouri. She is not yet in school.

The 1936 St. Louis Directory has Theo (Nellie) Winge, buildingcontractor at 4336 Holly Hills Blvd., home at same location. In the 1937 St. Louis Directory she is listed as Mrs. Nellie Winge with a home at 4336 Holly Hills Blvd. The same information is in the 1939 Directory.

She and Ted divorced sometime ca 1937-1944 after about 20 years of marriage.

The city Directory of 1941 has Mrs. Nellie Winge living at 3640 W. Bowen. At least one of her children is living there too.

Nellie applied for S. S. number 496-28-0314 on 31 May 1944 in Missouri at age 50 when she was unemployed and living at 3640 Bowen in St. Louis. Her birth date and place were given. The names of her parents were also given.

She moved to Elkart, IN sometime after May 1944.

She died in July 1979 in Zip Code area 46514 which is in Elkart, Ind.
