He was named after his paternal grandfather. The middle name was taken from his father. He was the only child.
The 1920 Fed. Census for Missouri (enum. district 225, sheet 4, line 69, vol. 186, reel 954) was taken on Jan. 5, 1920. Philip and his family are living at 1126 Dover Place in St. Louis City. His parents own the house without a mortgage. The mother, Frances is 33 years old. The father, William Corneli is 47 years old. Their son Philip, born in Missouri, is 8 years old and was at school. William is working with the traffic (auto?). William was born in Missouri; his father was German, his mother was French. Frances was born in Missouri of German parents and speaks English.
The 1930 St. Louis County Dir. lists no related Corneli.
The 1930 Fed. Census for Missouri (T626_1233, enum. dist. 565, supv. dist. 9, page 8B, lines 83-85, dated April 4) shows Philip and his parents living in ward 12 of St. Louis. His mother, Frances is 44 years old, born in Missouri, parents born in Germany. She was married at age 23. She can read, write, and speak English. She is not in school and has no occupation listed. His father, William is 57 years old, father born in Germany, mother born in Alsace-Loraine. He was married at age 23. He is not in school but can read, write, and speak English. His occupation is listed as salesman of coal. He is not a war veteran. They own the house at 1126 Dover and it is valued at $15,000. Phillip is 18 years old, born in Missouri, parents also born in Missouri. Phillip is a salesman for cookies. He is not in school but can read, write, and speak English. He is single. They have a radio set.
He married Dorothy Virginia Fuhler (-1G) between Apr. 1930 and Mar. 1933.
A son, Philip Pannier Corneli (0G) was born on 06 Jan. 1934 in St. Louis, MO
When he applied for S. S. # 488-10-1661 in Missouri on 23 Nov. 1935, he was still living with his parents at 1126 Dover Place and was working at Associated Grocers at 824 Spruce St. in St. Louis. He was 25 years old.
In the 1936 St. Louis City Dir. he is listed as Philip W. (Dorothy) Corneli, salesman, residing at 1126 Dover Pl.
His wife applied for Social Security number 489-16-4741 on 31 Jan. 1938 when she was working for the W. P. A. Project 4-3-141 at the Municipal Courts Bldg. in St. Louis. She was working since Dec. 1937. At the time of her application she and her husband were living at 1126 Dover Pl. in St. Louis.
The 1941 St. Louis County Dir. has Philip (Dorothy) Corneli (no occupation), with a home at 8010 Brittin Ave. in Affton. The 1942 St. Louis Dir has Philip W. Corneli, employee at Peverly Dairy Co., residing at 6216 Dexter Dr. in Affton. The 1946 St. Louis County Dir. (Polk) shows Philip Corneli (no wife listed), driver for Peverly Dairy, with a residence at RD Lemay, MO. The 1949 St. Louis County Dir. (Polk) lists Philip W. Corneli residing on Hagemann Rd., Lemay, MO 8. Dorothy is listed at the same address.
His wife died 9 Apr. 1995 in Zip Code Area 63111 which is in the city of St. Louis. The St. Louis Pub. Lib. Obit. Index lists an obituary in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on 11 Apr. 1995. The obituary has her maiden surname as Fuhler. The obituary says that Ruth was her sister; no other sibling is mentioned. Services were at Ziegenhein Funeral Home at 7027 Gravois. She was buried in Sunset Memorial Park in St. Louis.
He died on 3 (or 4th or 8th) Oct. 1998 in Zip Code Area 63111 which is in St. Louis. A letter from his living son states that our Philip died on 4 Oct. There is a listing for a Philip W. Cornell [sic?] in the St. Louis Pub. Lib. Obit. Index for an obituary in the St. Louis Post Dispatch on the date 10/5. I believe this is our Philip Corneli.
His birth (25 Apr. 1911) and death (03 Oct. 1998) are given in the S. S. Death Index (#488-10-1661). His last residence was in Zip Code 63111, St. Louis City. The S. S. application and number were done in Missouri before 1951.
