BREMER
a surname on our paternal side
Bremer families were found in Missouri as early as the last quarter of the 19th century. In Germany we find families in the Rheinland, Prussia; Westphalia, Prussia; Oldenbg; and in Hannover, Prussia. There were also families in other German states. I do not know the meaning of the name.
The (-1G) etc. ID after the names tell how many generations back from Erven Thoma and his siblings.

Two business are listed among the Bremer families above: Bremer Bros. with Frederick and Joseph and W. Bremer & Son with Henry.
Anna Bremer was living at 822 Julia in St. Louis when she married Leo Thoma on 6 Aug. 1890. Her father was born in Hannover and spoke High German; her mother in Prussia, specifically in Westphalia, ans spoke Low German.
The 1880 Census for Missouri shows a Diederich Bremer who was born in Hannover and his wife Elora C. who was born in Prussia. He is 62 and is a farmer; she is 54 and is keeping house. They have three sons: Henry (24), Herman (20), and August (14). The sons are helping on the farm and were all born in MO. They are living in Richland Township, Morgan County (supv. dist. 6, enum. dist. 191, page 31, sheet 202C, house 276, family 277, lines 28-32). On that same census page we find a Peter Bremer, 22, farmer, born in Missouri of a father born in Hannover and a mother born in Prussia. His wife Lora A. is 18, keeping house, born in IL, parents also born in IL. They have no children yet. It is possible that Peter is a son of Diederich.
An August Bremer was a partner with Leo Thoma in the brewery business for a short time. Since Leo Thoma married Anna Bremer, I suppose August was an in-law, probably a brother-in-law.
The 1880 Census in Missouri has other Bremer families:
Ludwig Bremer, born 1875, son of John, living in Richland Township, Morgan County, father born in Lousiana. (film 1254705, T9_0705, page 194D.)
Another Diederich Bremer, 27, is living with the family of Louis (wife Sophia and children Wilhelm and Henry A.). They are living in Florence, Richland Township, Morgan County (T9_0705, supv. dist. 6, enum. dist. 191, page 35, sheet 204C). Louis, 30, is a blacksmith born in Hanover. Sophia, 28, born in Prussia, also born in Prussia. Could Louis and Sophia be the parents of Anna?
