William's mother's surname is spelled "Mathias" in one source. They immigrated to the U.S. before 1850, probably separately and before they met. They were married on 07 Nov. 1850 in St. Louis.

His birth (on Christmas Day, 25 Dec. 1872) is recorded in the St. Louis Register of Births, #1784. At that time his parents were living at 3616 Olive St. In this record the mother's maiden surname is "Mathias".

Sister Louisa died before the 1880 Census (perhaps before William was born), probably in St. Louis. There is a Laura L. Corneli who lived at 2614 Olive (the same address as William and his parents), and died on 27 Aug. 1879 in St. Louis [St. Louis City Death Records, vol. 9, p. 717). This is perhaps the same person as Louisa, but there is a Laura Corneli in the 1870 Census (daughter of Jacob)..

In the 1880 Fed. Census for Missouri he and his parents' family are counted twice because they moved from 2414 Olive St. (vol. 35, en. dist. 133, sheet 15, line 24) to 2614 Olive St. (vol. 41, en. dist. 344, sheet 1 line 40), In the second listing we see his father, Philip, is 61 years old, born in Darmstadt. His mother, Mary, is 49 born in Alsace (France). Siblings listed are Lizzie (29), Philip B. (26), Adolph (20), Theresia (18), Minnie (13), Otto (10). William (called Willie) is 8. William and all his siblings were born in Missouri.

Also living nearby in 1880, at 2618 Olive is a Jacob Corneli, 56 years old with his wife and six children, ages 8 to 27. Jacob and his wife were both born in Prussia. Perhaps Jacob is an uncle to our William and a brother to his father Philip.

His father Philip died on 01 Feb. 1883 in St, Louis (St. Louis City Death Records, 1850-1908, p. 286. He and the family are living at 2614 Olive St.

I do not know about the other siblings (Otto, Philip, and Theresia, except that Theresia is still living).

William married Frances Winge (-2G) on 12 Nov. 1907 in St. Louis, MO by a 4th district Justice of the Peace (application #138967; license vol. 68, page 233). At that time William was 34 and living at 3027 Easton. Frances was 21 and living at 4460 S. 17th St.
