Tootsie Bear Day Care is a licensed home day care in the state of Wisconsin. We are licensed for up to 8 children and participate in the Federal Child Care Food Program. We received our license May 3, 1999. July 5, 2000 we were awarded a $1600.00 grant from the county to purchase needed supplies and to fund training and education for both staff members. This fall I began working towards an associate's degree in early childhood. We are also a member of the Child Care Advocates Council.
Like many other providers I started out "just babysitting" about 2 and a half years ago. After a while I realized that I really was enjoying what I was doing, and that I had grown beyond being "just a babysitter." I started looking into the licensing process in the fall of 1998 and completed it in 7 months. In that time I have learned so much about early childhood. I have so many dreams for my program and hope someday to have a separate area of my home dedicated to day care. For now we just deal with our home looking like a preschool and make the best of it.
January, 2000 I was able to hire my sister to be an assistant in the day care. She works with me 30 hours a week and it helps me immensly! We work very well together and it allows her the ability to spend her days with her new son and be with her daughter after school. It's working out to be a great thing for both of us!
I have been married for 11 years to a wonderful man, named Tom and we have 2 great kids: Josh and Savannah and a silly dog named Suzi. They all help me with the day care as much as they can. Even Suzi. She considers it her job to greet everyone in the morning, and keep watch at nap time. The kids love her. If you would like to get to know us, please click on the napping teddy below.

These are some of the forms that I use in my business.
When I enrolled in the Federal Child Care Food Program my sponsor gave me a binder full of lots of great information about the program, as well as nutrition and feeding of children. One of the best things in the folder though is Master Menus. For each meal (breakfast, snack and lunch or dinner) there are menus already planned out that meet the food program guidelines. I had been dreading sitting down to create a set of menus to rotate, and lo and behold, the my food program sponsor had already done it for me! Follow the links below to check out my rotating menus.
In search of some support and ideas to keep these little ones busy, I joined two day care related e-mail lists: The ProviderInfoStation list and KidzKonnection (a link to join ProviderInfoStation is above in the "other helpful sites section). In these two lists I found some wonderful ladies who are very dedicated to their chosen profession. I also have received many, many fun ideas and activities. This has made it so much easier to plan a themed program! By following the link below you can go to my online office which is a collection of these ideas. Once in my office you can find the theme ideas in my out basket (you will need a free download, available in the out-basket page, to view my files.). I can not take credit for any of the ideas contained in my files, they are the result of many other's combined years in the early childhood profession. If you need any help once in my office leave a message in my in-basket and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Click on the bear below to go to my office:
