MISS BECKY'S CHIHUAHUA PUPS

1. Tooth care.... Chihuahuas have problem teeth. Normally no matter how well you take care of them they still have bad breathe and the teeth fall out anyway. I do not recommend having chihuahuas teeth cleaned( unless you do it yourself) because there are some anastatics that kill chihuahuas.The less you have to put them to sleep for any reason the better.

2. Vaccinations....Some.chihuahuas are allergic, and die from vaccines. Here is a list so far I have found they have problems with. Leptospira it comes already mixed with the normal booster you do not have to worry about this one unless there is an outbreak of it.The dogs in most need of this is the show dogs because they are around animals from overseas......Lyme Disease vaccine if you use a good flea and tick controller this shouldnt be a problem. I recommend Bio Spot . (not for breeding females!) is the best at killing everything, and is less expencive than the other leading brands. It even repells mosquitoes! (heartworms come from) If you are a breeder you can use Bio Spot on your males but for females I use Front Line Plus its the only thing I have found that is suppose to be safe for pregnant or nursing females but has been known to cause miscarriages. So I use powdered garlic mix with there food and no bug will come anywhere near them!.....Heart Guard (6 month shot) has also been known to kill chihuahuas. So just stick to the pills. Allergic reaction will normally accure w/in 1/2 hr to 1 hr after the medicine has been given. You may notice swelling of the face, itching, bumps, trouble breathing. I use from walmart their brand(equate) of allergy elixir its very cheap and in liquid form.the ingredient you are looking for is Diphenhydramine hydrochloride in 12.5 mg or higher. give 1/2 teaspoon and a quarter of a teaspoon there after every 4 to 5 hrs for atleast 24 hrs. The symptoms should start to go away after the first hour after the dose. This is very important because most dogs die on the way back to the vets office.

3. I use ROYAL CANIN SENSIBLE CHOICE PUPPY FORMULA w/chicken and rice and its 100% all natural and fortified w/vitamins and minerals,it also contains calcium,and is naturally preserved w/vitamin E. And I also like it because the size is very small,its as big as the top of a pencil eraser. Because I did alot of research on dog diet, and allergies, if the main and/or first ingredent is corn then thats not good for them. It causes allergic reaction in the form of dry,itchy skin, bad coat,and intestinal havic. Most of your cheaper dog foods have them,but that doesnt mean all are bad. You want to look for the main ingredent to be meat and rice.Chihuahua dogs at any age in my opinion (from the research) should be fed puppy formula because they have very fast metabilisims,and can crash from long periods w/out food this helps keep there weight up,and keeps them healthy. ..

4. HYPOGLISIMIA happens when the dog goes for a long and even sometimes short period of time w/out food or water. A good way to keep this from happening is to mix honey,sugar,or some type of syrup in the animals water.For the first few months of life maybe longer depending on the size of your pup the smaller the longer you should do it. The signs to look for in this condition is sleeping to much too often,not responding and or going limp.The easiest and fastest fix is a syringe full of sugar water(any named above will do) and administer under the tongue if you can. With in minutes after that the pup should come around if 20 minutes have gone by call your vet.You should always leave your chihuahua food and water even in the crate do to this fact if you are gone for longer than 3 to 4 hrs. If you put a plastic square type container in the back of the crate(I use a cat litter pan) w/a small blanket or towel then put newspaper or puppy pad in the front so the animal can go when it needs to it will learn not to go to the bathroom were it sleep(in the container). Your dog for the first 1 to 3 days may not want to eat, this is normal but you have to make it drink , the syringe trick w/any sugary stuff listed above will work keep it up every hour untill the pup starts eating.Remember this is a big shock to them really its a lose they lost there mother and siblings at the same time so also buy them a stuffed animal not to big but very soft something he can snuggle up to. Now if your puppy cries at night you can also buy a little travel wined up clock that makes that ticking noise.That simulates his mothers heart beat and soothes them. Now for the first 3 to 4 days always get up atleast 2 to 3 times a night to check on them because this is the time when there sugar will drop more often then not!!!!!! If your dog is smaller than 2 lbs when you get them you maybe lossing sleep for alot longer,but its better than waking up to an animal who has passed when it was preventable!

5....ANIMAL SIZE this is a big controversy is the chihuahua world,"tea cup" really doesnt exsist......but i feel it does to a point as far as explaining sizes of chihuahuas.The word stardard means what a chihuahua is to look like from akc . The weight should be less than 6 lbs.Now to go in deeper anything under 2 lbs in a tiny tea cup,anything 2 to 4 lbs is a tea cup,anything from 4 to 6 lbs in called a toy chihuahua. Now all of this lables can be correct but this is really just and F.Y.I. so you can see and understand different advertisements and or websites what they means as far as size of a chihuahua. Really in the show world its standard (6lbs or under) or not standard(over 6lbs). And I have seen chihuahuas up to 15 lbs but that doesnt mean we love them any less, because they are our pets first. There isnt a size gaurantee because mother nature has her own scales!

6....TYPE OF HEADS...Now we get into the type of heads. There is the deerhead a long and slinder face and mussell looking like a deer hints the name. Appleheads,they are to have a dome look with a short mussell. The akc standard is the applehead. A long time ago in mexico the original animals were deerheads, but cause of man we have over time and selective breeding produced the applehead. There is a problem with appleheads in some dogs the soft spot never goes away. Your vet should keep an eye on this for you. They are both beautiful and no matter what size head shape or color a chihuahua is a chihuahua is a chihuahua!!!!!

7.....BREEDING.. if you chose to breed please do your homework, and do it well go to dog shows talk to the breeders(only after they have shown there dogs) ask advice get business cards go on the net type in keywords chihuahua breeders. Look at every website you can and email the breeder and ask if you can keep in contact w/them incase you need help down the road. I am almost always available, and i would be glad to help you!!!! Find a breeder close to you w/in 2 hrs away call them make an appointment to go and see them to talk shop! But dont expect them to let you in there kennel specially if they have puppies to young for there first shots because you could bring w/you diseases that can and will wipe out an entire kennel!!!!!!!!! If you do want to breed, breed responsibly. Here are the points you need to follow for good healthy animals.1....Never breed a female to a male who is bigger than she is,or you are looking for trouble! the pups will be too big for here to pass and a c section is in the near future.2....Make sure you feed your female puppy food from the start of her heat cycle(do not breed her in her first heat she is to young and is not done growing yet and it more often then not requires a c-section because they only have 1 or 2 pups and they are big . sometimes they are not good mothers)3....Pregnancy can last anywhere from 56days to 64 days from the first breeding so dont make any plans to go anywhere in that time frame she may need you to assist.4....while in labor have puppy formula avaialbe to her calcium jumo starts the labor process and keeps her from having preaclampsia!5....Once the pups are born you still need to feed her calcium up until the pups are 3 weeks old, this helps her to produce enough milk for her pups and doesnt depleat her calcium. When this happens its called preaclampsia,and it can be deadly!!!!!!!!! If she has loss of appetite,stumbling,sleeping, and or a fever get her to a vet fast she could die.6....Puppies depending on their size and eating ability shouldnt leave your home till 7-8 weeks the smaller the animal the longer it should stay(longer than 8 weeks) starting at 4 weeks intoduce them to canned puppy food(for puppies not dogs)at week 5 they should be on water softened hard food,and at 6 weeks they should be eating hard dry food. depending on what mom says about when its time to ween them 7.....Do NOT breed any female that is under 4lbs, its not good for her(c-section)and when they are that small they only have 1 or 2 pups usually(section 4).8.....SELLING... your pups this can be and most often is a heart breaking and costly journey dont expect to get rich quick by being a puppy mill!!!!Only advertise them after 6 weeks when they have had there first shots(refer to section 6) You can refuse a sale to anyone that is your right! And not all the pups live and no matter how experienced and carefull you are sometimes whole litters are lost and even the mother. So think about this very carefully before picking the toy breeds over the larger ones,or even breeding at all. If you are not breeding please, please spay or nueter your pets its a matter of instinct for them, not like us who have the american dream of having a family etc.To them it could mean cancer of the uterus or testicles if not bred and left intact.
