Asatru is a religion based upon the polytheistic beliefs of Pre-Christian Northern Europe. It is a reconstructionist faith. By this term, we mean that the religious revival has been pieced together from surviving lore, historical, and anthropological documents in order to rebuild Asatru, harnessing its truths in modern life, and preserving them for future generations. Most of our surviving lore can be found in the Icelandic texts The Prose Eddas and The Poetic Eddas. Literally the term "Asatru" means Faith in the Aesir or Gods.
Asatru is a highly individuistic religion that stresses values such as loyalty, honesty, honor, and self- reliance. The modern revival of Asatru began in the 1970's in Iceland led by the the late Icelandic Poet Sveinbjorn Bentisson. Since then, Asatru has continued to grow all over Europe, The United States, Canada, Australia, and even Argentina and has become a state recognised religion (as required by national law) in Iceland and Norway. Many Asatruar choose to wear a Thor's Hammer or Mjollnir as a symbol of their faith. This symbol not only evokes the strength of Thor, but also reminds us that like mighty Thor, we too are guardians of our Earth. In nature religions such as Asatru, the bond between the individual and his/her planet is of utmost importance.

Another symbol of the Asatruar is the Valknut. The valknut is composed of three interlinked equilateral triangles. The nine lines symbolize the nine worlds of the Norse tradition. The three triangles are said to represent the three realms of existence, and the ability to travel among them. The symbol is also associated with Fate, each triangle represents the Past, Present & Future, and their influence to each other. Specifically, it is a symbol of Odin. As a protection symbol, it invokes the power of eternal unity. Its name means "knot of the chosen ones"
