MARTIN GUARDS
In August of 1861, Patrick Ludlow Calhoun raised a group of men from Laurens District (now called county). These men were from Martin's Depot of said county. When the 13th Regiment was formed, P.L. Calhoun was elected Lieutenant-Colonel of the 13th and Romulus Lee Bowden was elected the Captain of Company A. The ladies of Laurens County made a company flag for the company which is well preserved and housed in the Confederate Relic Room of the State of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.
