About Kristin

I’ve been a figure skating fan since I was “knee-high to a grasshopper”, but never had the opportunity to skate as a kid. My mom would pull the cars out of our two-car garage so my sister and I could roller skate, and pretend that we were skating pairs in the Olympics. (I think between my sister and I, we won about 50 gold medals…)

I finally started ice skating in 1991 when I was in college because my school had a rink that was free to students, and I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to learn how to figure skate. I taught myself simple things like crossovers and some of the easier jumps, but I still didn’t have the chance to take lessons. My graduation present to myself was a really nice pair of SP Teri’s, probably the best thing I’ve ever bought! I took a few lessons here and there from 1995 to 2002, but not able to consistently practice because I was in the Navy and never home. While I was going to graduate school in 2002, I started competing in ISI competitions. I moved to Tampa in November 2003, and was finally able to really take lessons and practice consistently.

I took my USFSA Pre-Bronze MITF test in January 2005, and I am currently working on passing my Silver MITF and Silver Freeskate tests. My goal is to eventually pass the Adult Gold tests.
