Love Poem

The wrung neck of a swan, your beauty
Ashes scattered in the wind, your silence
A riptide in the waves, your sadness
A swarm of bees descending, your rage
Unmarked graves, your mystery
Footprints on the moon, your memory
The stare of a euthanized puppy, your eyes
Tentacles thrashing in the deep, your lust
A wound that doesn't heal, your sex
A tombstone on my chest, your love
Black and blue, my love for you

The Orchestra

Amid pastries and coffee
and people who were not friends
but whom I loved anyway
music seized me for the first time
Some violins, a harp-
They opened a single moment
and filled it with rain
with a man walking against the wind
I could see with my ears
feel notes floating in my blood
like an army of swans
midnight snowfall
and I knew that music was poetry
was painting was dance
