Under Construction...  subject to revision until I die.  After that pretty much nothing about me is likely to change.

OK, I started this “who am I” page ‘cause I saw lots of other web pages had one, then I stopped ‘cause I felt silly, but it seems a couple of people have actually looked at this page, so now I feel obliged to put something on it.  So here’s a little info on me, until I can think of something better.

What am I?:  I dunno.  I like goth stuff, but I’m not a goth.  I like rock, but I’m not a metalhead.  I like learning about religion and philosophy, but I can’t really believe in any of the systems I’ve heard about.  I like reading about magic and superstition, but don’t believe any of it.  I work with computers, but I’m not a computer geek (using “comp geek” in the good way).  I like movies and music, but can’t quote volumes of trivia about them like some of my friends.  I’m generally mellow and easy-going, but get really depressed sometimes.  I’m a little quiet and shy, less so when I’m drunk, and even less so if you’ve met me online.  I think I’m generally likable.  My wife thinks I’m cute (I’ll go as far as to say I’m not ugly).  I can draw pretty darn good, can paint well but only if I’m inspired, can sing if I have to, and can’t play an instrument or a sport worth a damn.

Here’s some of my vital trivia:

Born: July 1969
Birth Song: Summer of ‘69 by Bryan Adams
Family: According to Sue, one of the few functional families she’s seen.  Two married & retired parents, currently spending half the year touring the U.S. in their RV, and three (younger) brothers.  No sisters (always wanted one).

Sex: Yes Please!  Oh, that’s been done.  Male.

Best thing that ever happened to me: Meeting Suzie, the love of my life, my one and only!!!
Second best thing: Marrying Suzie!!!

Music in Heavy Rotation right now (now being January ’03):
Tom Petty “Wildflowers”, Sisters of Mercy “Vision Thing”, Weird Al, Rush “Grace Under Pressure”, Iron Maiden “Powerslave”, Megadeath “Countdown to Extinction”, Jethro Tull “Warchild”, Depeche Mode “Violator”, Led Zeppelin boxed set, Billy Joel’s Greatest Hits, Butthole Surfers “Weird Revolution”, Pink Floyd “Wish You Were Here” and “the Final Cut”

Musical Lyrics that Mystify me: Eagles, Hotel California, “We haven’t had that spirit here since 1969”.  Why do they mention my birth year?
Song I wish I had a longer 12” version of:  Toto, “Africa”
Song I wish I had on something:  New Order, “True Faith”

Good Books read lately:
“A Winter’s Tale” by Mark Helprin (not finished yet)
Hunter S. Thompson, “The Gonzo Papers Vol. 1: The Great Shark Hunt”
“The Museum at Purgatory” by Nick Bantock (a combination art/story book)

Disappointing Books read lately:
“Frankenstein” by Mary Shelly.  This sorry thing is one of the founders of Goth?
“Walden” by Henry Thoreau (skimmed).  Every page I flipped open to, the prick is whining about how he’s better than ‘common’ people because he has no cares because he doesn‘t have to work; prick.

Fave Books:
H. P. Lovecraft & other Cthulu authors, and Lord Dunsany pre-Cthulu books
Lewis Carroll Alice books, “The Hunting of the Snark”
Umberto Eco “Foucault’s Pendulum”
Homer, “the Illiad”
J. Gregory Keys, the Newton’s Cannon books
Walter M. Miller “A Canticle for Leibowitz”
Whatever comic books catch my eye; right now Zero Girl, Nodwick, Dork Towers, and Mek.

Fave Movies:
Akira, Animalympics, Austin Powers, Better Off Dead, the Blues Brothers, Decampitated (Troma! Troma! Troma!), Dogma, Dr. Strangelove, the Emperor’s New Groove, the 5000 fingers of Dr. T, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Forbidden Planet, Heavy Metal, Live & Let Die, any Marx Brothers (just fast forward thru most of the songs), Metropolis (Fritz Lang and Anime versions), Pink Floyd The Wall, the Producers, Spaceballs, the Star Wars movies (except “Attack of the Clones”… THHHPPP!), the Terminator I & II, the Thing (gory version - this needs a remake with computer animation!), any Japanese monster movie where a guy in a big rubber suit stomps on model railroad sets, and of course:
The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Plan 9 From Outer Space!

Fave Artists:
I like a lot of art, but don’t notice a lot of names; some I do know are:
Dali, Geiger, Edward Gorey, M. C. Escher, Luis Royo, Stanley Mouse, Roger Dean
And of course lots of folks online, especially (in no particular order) Spug, Lyx, David Hopkins, Zombi, Jay Naylor, Pyro, Brentos, and LOTS of others!

Pet Peeves:
‘True Believers’ in anything (religion, politics, a lifestyle, whatever) who can’t keep a sense of humor and perspective about it.
People who uncritically believe what they’re told without thinking.
People who only like one genre of music, movies, books, etc., restrict themselves to it entirely, and look down on all other genres.
