Original Air Date: March 8, 2002
The episode opens up in Max and O.C.’s apartment. The two are getting ready to go clubbing tonight. O.C. tells Max that she better have a good time. They are going to a club in which O.C. is tight with the bouncer there, A.K.A. Boom Boom. The two head out the door after Max professes that she is no longer going to be depressed about Logan.
Original Cindy and Max are standing in line outside the club for what seems like an eternity. O.C. says that she is going to go up front and find Boom Boom so they can go inside. Max says okay and O.C. makes her promise that she won’t bail on her. Max agrees and O.C. heads to the front of the line. In the meantime a gang comes up in there car walks right inside and begins wreaking havoc upon the other clubbers. The gang steals the money of numerous employs and clubbers and then heads out to leave. Original Cindy sees them come out and tries to stop them. One of the girls, Rain, throws her up against the wall breaking O.C.’s wrist. Then the group hightail it. Max reaches the head of the line where O.C. is and asks if she is okay. O.C. tells her that the gang all had barcodes.
The next morning at Jam Pony Max is apologizing to O.C. about the gang last night and her broken wrist. O.C. tells her that it isn’t her fault but Max claims that it is since she is the one who released all the transgenics out on the unsuspecting world. O.C. asks her if she is going to tell Logan and Max says no since she feels guilty for always getting him involved and if she sneezes on him he will die, and on top of that she wants him to think that she is just a regular girl. Just then she gets a page from Logan. She calls him back to learn that he has received tips about the gang and that one of the gang members, Leeta, has gone to the clinic for some sort of medical treatment. Max says that she’ll go check it out and set things straight…Logan tries to insist upon helping saying that he has a strange feeling, but Max says that she’s got it covered. Max decides to take O.C. home and then head over to the clinic. As she is heading out Normal hands her a package to be delivered. She says she can’t do it and hands it to Alec (who is in the middle of making a business deal, probably an illegal business deal). He tells Normal he can’t do it either but Normal simply tells him to find someone to cover for him.
Alec heads over to Joshua’s apartment and tells him about how he should get out more. Joshua says that he would rather paint. Alec tells Josh that he can use his bike and that he should try to be more independent of Max. Josh finally agrees and Alec gives him a helmet so no one will see that Joshua is really a dog-boy.
Max arrives at the clinic and meets with one of Eyes Only’s contacts who works there who leads Max to Leeta, however before Max can do anything the other gang members arrive and flee the scene. Max chases after them as they get into there car. The gang member who hurt O.C., Rain, tries to take on Max with no luck at all. Max beats the crap out of her. Just as one of the male gang members prepares to face Max, Logan pulls up and the gang flee leaving there fallen Rain to the mercy of Max and Logan. Max questions Rain about which series she is and Rain is completely confused. Max learns that Rain’s barcode is only a tatoo and that she is really not from Manticore. Logan and Max take Rain back to Logan’s for more questioning.
In the meantime Joshua is delivering Alec’s packages. He goes to the first lady and brings her the package, the woman asks him to hold the cat while she signs the clipboard and gives him a tip. The cat hisses at Joshua and scratches him. Joshua tosses the cat back inside and leaves the apartment. On his way out of the building Joshua runs into another messenger. He tells the messenger about the cat and the guy pulls out a pipe full of weed and gives it to Joshua telling him that it will get rid of the pain. Joshua thinks it is like Father’s pipe and agrees to smoke some.
At an old abandoned church the gang known as the Bloods shows up with Leeta and brings her to a very pale man with bulging veins and ice blue eyes. He is known as Marrow. He tells Leeta that she knew that this life was forever and since the shaking has already started there is nothing he can do to help her. He locks her in another room. He tells the others that this is forever. Soon after he goes into Leeta’s room and kills her.
At Logan’s apartment Max and Logan are drilling Rain trying to find out where she got the barcode. She asks Max if she wants one and Max shows her that she already has one. Rain is surprised at this. She then seems to begin to suffer from some sort of withdrawal and mutters something about a man named Marrow. Max takes off Rain’s jacket and finds an envelope for an offering to a church. Max decides to head down there and Logan says that he is going to call Dr. Shankar to come by and see what is wrong with Rain.
Max heads over to the church and sneaks inside. She sees Marrow deliver a eulogy for Leeta and members of the gang drink from Marrow’s blood. Max however is suprised by a gang member and knocked unconscious. She wakes up chained to a pillar in the church. Marrow is sitting there talking to her. He tells her that Manticore gave him the perfect blood with tons of “feel good enzymes”. He tells Max that he should kill her but he wants Rain back and tells Max that if Rain does not come back to him she will die. He also tells Max that the Bloods love him, they will fight for him since they depend on him since he is hunted (like all transgenics) by humans. Max heads back to Logan’s apartment to see if Dr. Shankar figured anything out.
In the meantime Joshua is hanging out with the messengers (AKA dudeheads) he met at a little fast food place. They chat for awhile with the intoxicated Josh and call him a dog. He decides to take off his helmet and show them that he really is a dog. They all start screaming and he runs away back to his house.
At Logan’s apartment Max talks to Logan about the conversation she had with Marrow. Logan asks Dr. Shankar what she thinks and she tells him that Rain might not make it through the night. Logan offers to take her back to Marrow’s. Max thanks him and says that she is going to go over to Joshua’s for a while.
Max arrives at Joshua’s and can’t find him anywhere. She begins to get worried. Just then Joshua runs through the door. Max is angry with him at first until he hides under a blanket. She takes the blanket off of him and smells the smoke. She asks him what happened and he tells her a very jumbled story but she manages to make out key words such as Alec, and packages, and dudeheads, and pipe, she is able to piece together what happened. She tries to calm the nervous, intoxicated Joshua with little success.
Logan is giving Rain a ride back to the church. She asks him why Max is so upset by Marrow since they are the same. Logan tells her that they aren’t the same and tells her Max’s story. He tells her that she can’t stand people being enslaved and she doesn’t understand why anyone would believe the lies that Marrow tells the Bloods. Rain ponders over what Logan tells her as she goes inside the church. Marrow takes her to a secluded room.
Logan heads over to Joshua’s house to see Max. When he gets there he sees Max trying to calm Joshua. He asks what is going on and Max tells him about Joshua’s little adventure. Logan tells Joshua that it is all in his head. Max begins to think about that and realizes that what Marrow said was a lie and that Rain will be fine without sipping his blood. She leaves Logan with Joshua and heads back to the church. She bursts through the wall just as Marrow is preparing to kill Rain. Max fights him and they end up in the main section of the church. The Bloods watch the fight. Rain comes out and tells them that everything that Marrow said was a lie and that she didn’t sip and she was fine. Marrow tries to silence Rain once and for all and Max rushes in and pushes him away. He ends up landing on a metal spike sticking up from a candle holder and impaling himself. After Marrow’s death the Bloods fear what will happen to them but Rain assures them that they will be fine. She tells Max that her friend (Logan) told her about everything and she is lucky to have Logan in her life. Max agrees.
The next morning Max brings Joshua some fries and the two sit down to eat breakfast just then Max gets a page from Logan. It says that it is urgent. Joshua tells her to go see what is going on and she heads over to Logan’s place. When she gets there Logan tells her that there is another creature. A huge one that breathes fire and flies. Max starts laughing and Logan smiles. It was just a joke. He tells her that he only wanted to let her know that the gang is doing fine and there is no danger of exposure. Max smiles and says that she is just going to try to kick it for awhile as a regular girl. Logan smiles and says that that would be boring.
