Biography
Born in Mexico City on November
20, 1956, Alejandro (Alex) Mendoza, attended the Colegio Franco Español, a
liberal high school, where he formed their first theatre group staging and
directing several classic plays. Later he attended the Industrial and Graphic
Design School of the private Universidad del Nuevo Mundo.
Alex founded a graphic design studio, Diseñadores Associados, A.P. where he
designed and implemented several corporate identity programs. Later he worked
on his first professional stage experience, mounting and directing a musical
revue using actors on roller-skates, "New York, on Wheels". Shortly
afterwards he was hired as Senior Art Director for Campbel-Ewald, where he
worked in advertising campaigns for fashion (High Life), banking (Banamex),
liquor (Don Q, Amaretto Di Saronno) and soft drinks (Coca-Cola).
He moved in 1982 to Los Angeles, where he enrolled at the Film School of
Columbia College. There he wrote produced and directed a TV Spot for Channel
No. 5, a 20 minute dramatic short, "The Night of the Owl", and a
promotional film commissioned by the school itself.
After graduating from film school, Alex worked on two film projects achieving
completion bonds for both of them. In 1987 he was employed as an assistant to
the manager of the US Hispanic Home Video Division of Vestron, Inc. Afterwards
he was promoted as Manager of the division working on the releases of
"Dirty Dancing", "Platoon", "Hoosiers" and
"Young Guns". Later he was asked to manage the International Home
Video Division of Vestron International Group. Soon after he was promoted to
Director of Theatrical, Home Video and TV International Sales and Distribution.
There he handled titles such as "The Princess Bride", "Earth
Girls are Easy", "Hamburger Hill" and "Blue Steel"
along with a library of 3000+ movies and TV series.
In 1991, after Vestron was acquired by Live Entertainment, Inc. (now named
ARTISAN Entertainment), Alex joined Live in the same position while the company
was distributing titles like "Terminator 2". In 1994 Alex was
contracted by Saban Entertainment to manage the Home Video division where he
released the very successful "Mighty Morphing Power Rangers" White
Series.
In 1995 he moved to Morgan Creek International to handle the Theatrical, Video
and TV distribution including films like "Ace Ventura: When Nature
Calls" with Jim Carey, "Two if by Sea" with Sandra Bullock,
"Diabolique" with Sharon Stone, "Wild America" with
Jonathan Taylor Thomas, "Wrongfully Accused" with Leslie Nielsen and
the animated version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic masterpiece
"The King and I". Alex also handled the distribution of the Morgan
Creek library that includes titles like "Robin Hood: Prince of
Thieves", "The Last of the Mohicans", "True Romance",
"Enemies, A love Story", "Major League" and "Ace
Ventura: Pet Detective".
Currently, Alex is the principal of the entertainment distribution-consulting
firm, Alex Mendoza & Associates, which he has positioned as an early
adviser to independent filmmakers and production companies who need an accurate
evaluation of their properties and ultimate revenue forecast.
As an additional service, Alex Mendoza & Associates offers producers
references to an extensive worldwide network of reputable distributors,
pre-sales companies, and financial entities that can provide development,
production, bridge, gap and/or completion financing.
Alex, since 1999, maintains and
moderates a networking e-mail list serve of Latinos In The
Industry that now counts with more than 450 members, where they share news
and information relating to Latino Entertainment.
