Today, 5-08-01:
It's been a tough year. At one point I had gained almost 14 pounds. In terms of numbers, I spent the year gaining one week, losing the next. After four consecutive weeks with a loss, last night I finally broke 100 pounds again.
During this past year, I learned just how much a part of me the Weight Watchers Tools for Living had become, in particular Empowering Beliefs and Anchoring. Every time the old behaviors would creep in, I would be keenly aware of the way I felt. I was aware of the numbness that, for me, comes with overeating. I knew I no longer wanted to feel numb.  I had learned to love living each and every day... good or bad. I had learned that nothing could beat the sound of my own laughter. In spite, or maybe because of the struggle, I know with certainty that I will succeed..No matter how rough the road ahead of me may become, I'll have this year of growing strength from which to draw.

Last night I recieved my 110 pound weight loss star. This was my goal for my 3 yr. anniversary with WW and I did it! With less than 30 pounds to go, I'm in a state of amazement. THIS IS THE BEST!

What I've Gained
Top Ten Things I Can Now Do!

Climb stairs without huffing and puffing.
Sit in any chair I want.
Get out of any chair I sit in!
Cross my legs.
See my feet.
Get in and out of my car w/o pushing myself up.
Ride a bike.
Swim in a public place.
Tie a bow in my sneakers on the top, NOT the side!
Hook my bra without breaking out in a sweat!

Really, I've gained so much more than I've lost. I look at things so much differently now. I have a clarity of thought that I never had before and a spirit for living that goes beyond joy. In place of bitterness, I'm grateful. In place of contempt, I feel compassion. In place of anger, I have understanding. I'm at peace with myself. Trust me, I'm no saint; the lessons and insights I've gained take work, and I plan on being a work in progress for the rest of my life. I started out only wanting to lose weight and now it's almost a side effect of other changes. I heard this once concerning weight loss and say it to myself everyday.....I saved my soul and my body came along for the ride. I guess that pretty much says it all.
How Do I Do It?...... Mirrors!
Well, the mirror helps, but.....
I'm no one special as far as weight loss goes. I have no great secret message to share. Just keep working at it. Don't give up. I've started over and over again so many times in the past 2 1/2 years. It takes walking into your meeting.. win, lose, or draw. It takes a willingness not to give up, to keep on going in spite of all the obstacles. And most of all it takes kindness to yourself. Treat yourself like your own best friend. Say kind things. 6/29/00- Called Lane Bryant and told them to stop sending their catalog. No more "W" after my size!

I enjoy getting email from anyone who's in the Weight Watchers Program or anyone who's considering or working toward weight loss. Just click on "send me email" at the bottom of the page. I try to spend time each day in the Weight Watchers forum (ali103). This can be found by following the WW link listed below.
