GERRARD: See Jarrett.

GLATTFELDER: (See also: Clotfelter) Maternal g10-grandmother. Barbara Glattfelder (c1632 Glattenfelden, Eglisau District, Zurich, Switzerland - 7/22/1694 Glattenfelden, Eglisau District, Zurich, Switzerland) who married Felix Glattfelder (10/21/1632 Glattfelden, Eglisau District, Zurich, Switzerland - 1/1/1708-9) on 11/30/1663 in Glattfelden, Eglisau District, Zurich, Switzerland. I am not positive her actual surname is Glattfelder, as she married a Glattfelder. However, that is not out of the realm of possibility. If this is her actual surname, I have no doubts that she and her husband are likely cousins. LU: 3/20/2000.

GORIUS: Maternal g9-grandmother. Barbara Gorius (c1670 Glattenfelden, Eglisau District, Zurich, Switzerland - ??). She married Felix Glattfelder (3/7/1668-69 Glattfelden, Eglisau District, Zurich, Switzerland - 8/23/1724 ??) on 1/22/1694-5 in Glattfelden, Eglisau District, Zurich, Switzerland. LU: 3/12/2000.

GORMAN: Maternal great-grandmother. Lilly Ruth Gorman (still living) married George Astin Cheney, Jr (3/11/1922 Fulton Co., GA - 12/20/1996 Clayton Co., GA). This line is pretty well researched and most information was provided via their great-grandmother, which she in turn got from a Gorman researcher (Lily Ruth-> John Berry, Sr -> James Melton Clayborn). The line can be traced back to the g3-grandfather, James Melton Clayborn Gorman, (1/2/1844 in Talbotan, GA -- ??) who married three times (Owen, Burge & Bowen). LU: 8/24/2000.

GRANT: Paternal g2-grandmother. Sallie Jane Grant (?? - c1946 GA) married Asa Powell Hardy, Sr (c1900 GA - ?? Jersey City, NJ) on 8/5/1916 in Butts Co., GA. The line can only be traced to their g3-grandfather, an unknown Grant (?? - ??)(Sallie Jane -> Unknown) who married a Lucie Bell ?? (5/8/1878 - 4/15/935). I have substantial information on parallel Grant lines but have, thus far, been unable to connect the two lines together. There is family speculation is that Lucie Bell may have been either a Johnson or a single parent. I am very interested in tracing this line further. LU: 4/20/2000.

GRIFFIS: Paternal g8-grandmother. Mary Griffis (?? - ??) married Edward Weaver (c1720 Surry Co., VA - c1772 Sussex Co., VA) about 1735. LU: 3/7/2000.

GRIFFITH: Maternal g2-grandmother. Eugene "Major" Ruth Griffith (?? - ??) married Stephen Jackson Clodfelter/Clotfelter (c1883 - ??). Her father (g3-grandfather) was an unknown Griffith that married an unknown Mathis aka "The Colonel." LU: 3/14/2000.

Griffith Arms variants.

HAMLIN: Paternal g10-grandmother. Elizabeth Hamlin (c1675 Charles City Co., VA - ??) married Nicholas Jarrett (Sr)(c1672 Surrey Co., VA - c1718). LU: 8/24/2000.

HARDEE: See Hardy (1).

HARDY (1): Paternal great-grandmother. Beatrice Odessa "Duck" Hardy (3/11/1921 Spalding Co., GA - 12/11/1976 Jackson, Butts Co., GA) married Claude "Third Row" "Thirtyrow" Lamar Thurston (10/31/1916 Butts Co., GA - 8/23/1986 Jackson, Butts Co., GA). There is a large group of researchers on this line. They have the line traced way back to a Anthony Hardy (c1605 UK - c1665 Pembroke, Wales, UK). Unfortunately, I see some serious concerns with the validity of some of the connections. This centers on inconsistent dates and clearly repetitive information in different generations/branches. At this point I am only willing trust the info back to the g8-grandfather, Lemuel "Lamb" Hardy, Sr -- and I am not so sure about him (before 1700 - before 1750 in Salmon Creek, Bertie Co., NC)(Beatrice "Duck" Odessa -> Asa "Acie" Powell, Sr -> Ina -> Walter "Walt" A -> Josiah/Joseff/Joseph, Jr -> Josiah/Joseff/Joseph Sr -> Jessie Sr -> Lemuel "Lamb" Sr). Lemuel married Elizabeth Parrott (c1702 Bertie, NC - c1800 Salmon Creek, Bertie Co., NC) about 1728 in Bertie Co., NC. I do not know if this line connects with the Hardy line below, but I strongly suspect it does. Their g2-grandfather, Asa, married at least 4 times and perhaps as many as 8 (according to his son, Ace Jr)! LU: 1/3/2002.

HARDY (2): Maternal step-g3-grandfather. Charlie O. Hardy (?? - ??) married Ina Hardy (c1887 - ??) (pictured above) on 12/17/1912 in Butts Co., GA. Ina is of their paternal line (see above). It is not known whether Charlie is of the same Hardy line and a possible cousin to Ina, or not. It is, however, strongly suspected. Charlie married Ina after she had all ready mothered a son (Asa Powell Hardy, Sr c1900 GA - ?? NJ)(see above). This is all that is known about Charlie's line -- except this couple ended up in FL (lived in a swamp -- possibly Okeechobee), where Ina died. LU: 1/3/2002.

HARDYMAN: See Hardeman.

HARDEMAN: Paternal step-g7-grandmother. Jane Hardeman (c1752 - ??) married Richard Raffety (?? p c1797 Oglethorpe Co., GA). Her line can be traced on back to the step-g10-grandfather, John Hardyman (Sr) (Jane -> John -> John Hardyman (Jr) -> John Hardyman (Sr)). LU: 8/24/2000.

Hardyman Arms.

HARLE: Paternal step-g14-grandmother. Agnew Harle (?? England - ?? England) married Allan Eppes (?? England - ?? England). 6/16/2000.

HAWKINS: Paternal g7-grandmother. Elizabeth Hawkins (?? - ??) married Jesse Hardy (Sr) (c1744 Bertie Co., NC - 9/3/1827 Lincoln Co., GA) about 1772 in NC. LU: 8/28/2000

HERSHBERGER: Maternal g7-grandmother. Veronica Hershberger (c1740 York Co., PA - ??) married Johan Rudolf Glattfelder (3/25/1721 Glattenfelden, Zurich, Switzerland - c1810 Davidson Co., NC) on 4/21/1767 in Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA. This line can go one more generation back to the g8-grandfather, Christian Hershberger (c1714 Switzerland - ??) who married Barbara ?? (?? - ??). LU: 3/20/2000.

HUGHES: Paternal step-g2-grandmother. Annie Pearl Hughes (?? - ??) married Asa "Acie" Powell Hardy, Sr (c1900 GA - ?? Jersey City, NJ). Asa had at least 4 and as many as 8 marriages. LU: 3/14/2000.

Hughes Arms.

HUNT: Paternal g5-grandmother. Rebecca L. Hunt (9/7/1816 - 3/24/1888) married David C. Maddox (10/28/1803 GA - 5/29/1872 Butts Co., GA). I have some parallel Hunt lines that I have not been able to connect to this line, as yet. I suspect she may have been a sister to a J S Hunt (c1802 - c1877) who married a Mary A Gaines (c1804 - c1895) -- who are known to have been in the same area at the same time as Rebecca (of whom I have an extensive lineage). I am very interested in tracing this line further. LU: 8/24/2000.

Hunt Arms variants.

IVEY: Paternal g8-grandmother. Martha Ivey (2/1/1734-35 Sussex Co., VA - c1790 Wilkes Co., GA) married Fadda "Fada" Jarrett (c1730 Albermarle Parish, Surrey Co., VA - 5/20/1813 Wilkes Co., GA). LU: 8/24/2000.

IZER: See Martin.
