Beaded Amulet Bags

Webster's Dictionary defines the word "amulet" as follows: a charm worn to ward off evil or to bring good fortune;talisman. My definition of a beaded amulet bag is that of a beautiful beaded necklace. The good fortune is in the hands of the wearer of the amulet. A beaded amulet bag might contain a small crystal, or a bit of semi-precious stone. It may hold a bit of sachet, or the wearer's lucky coin.

Three amulet bags

The three bags above are among the collection I have beaded recently. The designs are from the book Dancing Light ©, authored by a very talented artist, Suzanne Cooper. From the left they are titled Panda, Oriental Rug and Stained Glass. I used Delica beads on the body of each bag.

Another bag from Dancing Light ©.

Hummingbird Amulet Bag

This one is titled Hummingbird

Bear fetish bag

Here are some more of my creations. The Bear Fetish bag from Suzanne Cooper's book Dancing Light © is one of my personal favorites. I collected the stone bear fetishes over a period of time, visiting bead stores and gem and mineral shows to find just the right bears. When my favorite local bead store sponsored a beading contest, my Stained Glass bag entry was selected as one of the best representing spring. I used my gift certificate prize for the turquoise chips used on this Bear Fetish bag. I wear this bag often. It never fails to attract compliments, and requests to teach the Peyote Technique. If you would like more information about Dancing Light © or other Suzanne Cooper books, please email her at SuzyCoop.

Blue bag in double drop stitchThe blue bag pictured to the left is one of the first bags I made while learning the Peyote stitch techniques. It is done in the double drop stitch. The blended blues of the Delica beads were irresistable to me when I spotted them in the bead store. Since I often wear blue denim clothing, this seemed the perfect color to me.

Matte purple amulet bag

The purple bag on the right is done in matte purple seed beads. I could not resist them. (Hmmmm, are there any beads I can resist?) When I found some matte purple bugles I used them to fringe the strap. This bag has a fringed flap as well. The purple bicone beads came from Bead Gal. She can be found on the AOL Jewelry Crafts boards, and has some of the most beautiful beads for sale.
