i grew up in Colorado Springs, and was blessed to live near a working cattle ranch. The kids were my age, and from early on, we rode horses almost every day. Then i got my very own horse, Zahdy...... 1/2 Arabian, 1/2 QuarterHorse.......... the PERFECT horse for a kid!!! She would do absolutely anything i asked her to, was patient and kind and bombProof!! One of our neighbors just happened to be Ruth Tyree, who in later years was a very well known horsewoman (completed the Tevis Cup at age 72!!!), trainer, teacher, all around fabulous person!!!!!! We had a riding club, the Rock Creek Riders, and learned from our earliest years how to train and ride and have loads of FUN!!!! Bareback was our main style, and we rode and rode and rode the wilds of the Colo. Spgs. of the 50s and 60s............ Ruth molded us, loved us, taught us all those years, one of the biggest blessings of my life!!!!!!
When i attended CSU (colo. state uinv.) from 1965-69, i worked for Al Richardson, who ran the entire equine program back then. Zahdy was the horse everyone wanted to ride!!!!! i earned all the advanced degrees in teaching and training with Al, what a great time it was!!
In late 1971 Zahdy and i moved to Cerrillos NM, where i have been ever since. i moved to my beloved Makarios (greek for ''blessed'') Ranch in 1975, and Lord willing, here i will spend all the days i have on this planet. We also chose the name of our road, Querencia, to describe this enchanted area........In Spanish, querencia describes a place where one feels safe, a place from which one's strength of character is drawn, a place where one feels at home; peaceful.
Camino Querencia *** Peaceful Way
Because our area is so diverse, we can ride in the riverbed, up the steep Cerrillos Hills, wind in and out of arroyos, gallop across plains and hillsides.......... just have a LOT of fun, and see a lot of spectacular views and terrain. Personally, i love to have a vigorous ride, and only very experienced riders can take full advantage of these rides...... thus my specialization. (however, if you are not that experienced, i will consider taking you on a walking-only ride)
If you have ridden most of your life, had owned a horse sometime in your past, or have horses now, i am inviting you to join me for a great riding adventure on my wonderful horses......... all of whom i have raised and trained, all of whom are very dear to my heart!!!!!
looking forward to making your acquaintance, my new friend!! ciao!!!!annie
