Siri Macallan says, " We all have characters, in theory. And most
of us are here to get ideas on how to improve. Unless you were here
for the food, in which case, bummer."

What I wanted to talk
about, is how to add the little bits that really make our characters
3D to others. Characterizations. Gestures. Habits. Phrases.
"
Ferd Berfel says, "quirks"

Siri Macallan says, "
We all have them in
reality. We all quirk our mouths a certain way,
or we play with our hair, or we jangle our keys in our pockets.
"
Edward Straker draws his mouth into a tight, thin line of disapproval,
and shoves his hands into his pockets.
Siri Macallan asks, "
So what does your character
do? "
Luke Murdoch says, "Snake's gets drunk"
Siri Macallan asks, "
Does he or she play
with their hands? Or maybe just their rings? "
Luke Murdoch grins at Snake Silvertongue.
Siri Macallan grins at Luke Murdoch.
Edward Straker glances at his platinum band.
Travis Millerz says, "mine grins and snickers alot"

Edward Straker turns to look at Siri Macallan and furrows his brow.
Siri Macallan says, "
Most of us have our
little habits because they bring some sort of comfort "
Travis Millerz asks, "because it's part of who they are?"
Siri Macallan asks, "Okay, so Bobby. What do you do when you're
embarrassed?"
Edward Straker slinks down in his seat, with a sour expression.
Bobby Stuart says, "Um.."
Bobby Stuart asks, "Ya mean like now??"
Bobby Stuart fidgets nervously while cautiously glancing about the room.
Siri Macallan says, "Physically."
Siri Macallan nods.
Siri Macallan says, "So you fidget."
Bobby Stuart says, "Fidget usually."
Joy Nalewi says, "Wow, put on the spot..."
Joy Nalewi grins.
Bobby Stuart nods to Siri Macallan.
May Davenport chuckles.
Siri Macallan asks, "Ami, how about you. What do you do physically
when you're angry?"
Ami Stuart asks, "umm...yell?"
Bobby Stuart says, "Bop me over the head."
Bobby Stuart grumbles about something.
Bobby Stuart ducks his head.
Ami Stuart chuckles.
Ami Stuart grins at Bobby Stuart.
Siri Macallan asks, "If there wasn't anything or anyone to yell
at, what would you do? Clench fists, frown, throw things?"
Bobby Stuart grins at Ami Stuart.
Ami Stuart says, "throw things"
Siri Macallan grins.
Bobby Stuart gets a distant look on his face as he ponders.
Siri Macallan asks, "Travis, what would you do if you were under
a lot of stress? What's the outward sign that you are?"
Travis Millerz says, "I'd be moody. My moods would change alot"
Siri Macallan asks, "How would you get that across physically?
Scowl? Wad up handkerchiefs? "Start sentences and not finish them?"
Mickey Dufresne says, "I think once you establish that the character
does these things in a certain situation, these quirks, it makes it
apparent what the character is feeling at the moment."
Travis Millerz says, "yea I'd stare at people and not say anything"
Siri Macallan asks, "Morgan, how would you show that you were upset?"
Morgan Whitney begins to weep softly.
Morgan Whitney says, "Or fold my arms.."
Morgan folds her arms.
Morgan Whitney frowns.
Siri Macallan nods.
Siri Macallan grins.
Morgan Whitney says, "And then I yell at JP."

We all talk a lot. Talk
is the easiest thing to do on the island. But beyond the basic commands,
we have ACT and that can be used to show almost anything.
"
Ferd Berfel agrees with Siri Macallan.
Liz Larson idly twirls a strand of her hair around her finger as she
stares off into space.
Siri Macallan says, "
Back to habits. Most
of us (most) have eating habits, especially when we're upset.
"
Siri Macallan grins.
Siri Macallan says, "My personal fav is anything chocolate."
Johnpaul Ledo exclaims, "Waffles!"
Ferd Berfel says, "pancakes"
Edward Straker gets a large hot cocoa from inside his leather attache.
Mickey Dufresne chuckles.

So what does your character
want? "
Siri Macallan asks, "And why?"
Ferd Berfel says, "pancakes, because they are almost the most perfect
food"
Siri Macallan asks, "
When someone pushes
all your character's buttons and it's been a crummy day for your character...
what does he or she reach for to soothe away the blues?

All these little things
are what flesh out characters... and each character should come with
his or her own set of foibles. "
Mickey Dufresne says, "So much more expressive than so-and-so feels
this way or that"

part of what make up a 3D character. We have a ton of commands, some
of which I never see used... even by me. "
Siri Macallan says, "
And all of us can play
with ACT to express our character's own foibles and habits.
"

at the tender age of 22. And now they're 25. They still have everything.

whose lives changed in a moment ... usually tragically.
"

And that's just want
got me to thinking about someone who got everything, and nothing "bad"
happened. "
Joy Nalewi says, "I've always wondered why everyone here has such
tragic lives... or most"
Joy Nalewi furrows her brow.

Most people, in reality,
have very interesting lives. "

Morgan Whitney says, "I think most everyone has a bit of tragedy
in their lives. For me, it motivates the character's activities to a
great deal"
Johnpaul Ledo agrees with Morgan Whitney.

rather challenge you all to think of characters in terms of "normal".

don't breed interest"
