July 4th of 2002 is a day I will remember for a long time.
My husband is in the Army and deployed to the Middle East. I had taken my three children to the local parade and events in town and this included a performance by Chad Brock. My two older children (ages 7 and 10) and I knew who he was and were excited that we would get to see him and be up close. My youngest child, Meagan, who just turned 6 on July 3rd doesn't understand about concerts or who is in them etc... This is because she was born with several birth defects and has numerous medical conditions. But she is a huge country music fan. In fact CMT is a channel we turn the TV to when we don't know what she wants. This always calms her down.
Once Chad began to perform, my 6 year old's face was lit up brighter than the fireworks we would see later that night. This means a lot to me because she has been through so much in her short life that seeing her so happy does wonders for my heart. My husband and I try our best to make her quality of life the best it can be.
Within the first song, Chad came to the edge of the stage and touched Meagan's hand. Later on in the evening he even held Meagan up on stage. This got a reaction from the crowd that gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. Many people have a negative attitude toward Meagan and how "productive" she will be in her life. All I can say, is that seeing her in the arms of Chad Brock on stage with a mile wide smile across her face, made me know in my heart that she is productive in her own way.
God Bless Chad and I hope he knows that he forever touched my heart in the way he lit up my daughters life for that one evening and it will never be forgotten!
