Meagan
Welcome to...
Meagan's Page!
Hi and Welcome to Meagan's little page on the web!
Meagan is now 7 years old and she is a very special little girl.  She was born with a few "challenges" and these have not slowed her down one bit.  Not as far as character goes.  She is a happy little girl that knows what she likes and gets quite the attitude if she doesn't get it.
Meagan was born full term and weighed 7lbs13oz.  She didn't stay big though.  By 10 months she was 12lbs and she stayed 12lbs until around her 2nd birthday.
She was born with a severe clubbed foot and a cleft palate.  She is also missing a part of her brain (Corpus Callosum).  She has been on seizure medicines since she was about a year old.  We see an occassional seizure but not the grand mal type.  At 10 months old she had to have heart surgery to close the PDA (Patent ductus arteriosus).  It took 2 surgeries to fix her cleft palate...they were done at 7 months and 20 months old.  The first attempt to correct her clubbed foot was at 14 months.  She gave us a big scare after that one and we didn't know if she was going to make it or not.  She pulled through it fine but it opened our eyes to how life can change in a blink of an eye.
When Meagan was 4 yrs old she got real sick and was losing weight at a steady pace.  Doctors kept telling me it was just a stomach bug but I knew otherwise.  So, I stayed on them until they found what it was.  It is sad that we were getting close to losing her and no one had a clue (except me).  They discovered she had malrotation of her bowels.  Which meant her intestines were all jumbled up and backwards and her appendix was in the wrong place..  So, they went in and fixed her intestines and removed her appendix.  After that she was put on Pediasure (along with food) and within about 6 months she had gained her weight back (plus some).
Meagan also has some kidney issues.  But at this time she is on a preventative antibiotic and we are just watching her.  We are trying to delay surgery for that as long as we can.  She doesn't have any infections or complications so we can keep holding out.
In January of this year (2002) it was found that she had "idiopathic" high blood pressure.  We don't know how long this has been a problem but it had affected her heart.  She is currently on blood pressure medicine.
Meagan doesn't crawl or walk.  She has recently started bearing some weight on her legs...  but is pending foot surgery so that we can get her up and trying to walk.
Meagan's interests include her daddy, me (her mommy), FOOD, Barney videos (ack! not another Barney tape), and country music (especially Chad Brock).   She can say about 7 words and knows about 10 "signs". But of course mommy can read her mind... so who needs to talk right?

Meagan says "Please sign my guestbook!"

                             UPDATE
Meagan had another clubbed foot repair.  This took place on
Sept 27, 2002.  It took her about a week and a half to get back
to herself.  The cast is still on, but I am happy to report that her
ankle is now up at 90 degrees and bracable.  We hope to get
her up and standing soon.  After surgery it was found that she
was experiencing tachycardia...this had her frequenting the
ER...so she added a beta blocker to her at-home-pharmacy .   I
will add pictures of her when her cast comes off this week...so
 check back soon!
