Bill Hemsing has been an artist for 35 years, creating both paintings and sculptures as a hobby. Since October 1995, he has been challenged by ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease. In four short months the disease destroyed the motor neurons that control his muscles, leaving him unable to walk and without use of his hands. But the disease has not robbed Bill of his artistic eye or his postive spirit. He continued to create for The Artist Within collection in the form of notecards, custom cards, calendars and prints by activating a voice synthesizer with a bump of his jaw which commanded his voice-activated computer at execute the art program. Bill now relies on the movements of his eyes and a fiberoptic switch to communicate and to continue his work. His Story
Proceeds from The Artist Within Collection of computer enhanced artwork will go toward research for a cure for ALS.
