I discovered yoga ten years ago and loved it immediately. I was as stiff as a board after many years of long distance running and weight training without mixing in yoga or stretching.
Since then I have studied with many skilled and well-known instructors, including John Friend, John Schumacher, David Swenson (with whom I've taken teacher training), Beryl Bender Birch, Doug Swenson, Kathy McNames, Doug Keller, Gayna Uransky, Arthur Kilmurray, and Francois Raoult. I am registered through the Yoga Alliance.
I have studied Iyengar, Anusara, and Bikram yoga as well as Ashtanga, and have taught Iyengar-style yoga as well as Ashtanga. I believe that any yoga honestly taught is wonderful, and students will gravitate to what they're attracted to. I have gravitated to Ashtanga, because I love the movement, and emphasis on breathing and focus, and I love the safety of Ashtanga Yoga -- when you come to a pose, you are ready for it.
I keep up a strong home practice, doing yoga usually six mornings a week for 90 minutes to two hours. Generally, I alternate the Ashtanga first and second series.
In addition to being a magnificent tonic for wellness, yoga teaches focus, awareness, patience, humility, and self acceptance. It brings joy and well-being. My wish is that I can help introduce the profound gift of yoga to others.
