Al's Genealogy Pages Intro
You are visitor number since March
30,1998.
For those of you who have viewed my genealogy page before you know that it
takes a very frustrating long time to load because of the many graphics.
I have added sound and more graphics and for this reason have broken
it up into 21 quicker loading pages. The music that you will hear with
each page(if you have the capability) is representative of the time and/or
individual portrayed. Most of it can be downloaded from one of my three midi
pages. It will play continuously until you exit the page. The Star
Wars main theme was chosen for this page for dramatic effect only.
Two things are available here. First an ad for my 399 page Simms genealogy
book and second the "Story of Simms" which is a presentation of the Simms
lineage from the earliest ancestor I know of thru my grandchild - 16 generations
- 1500 thru today.
At the left you will
see a graphic, the upper portion of which is a partial sample listing from
the book and the lower portion of which are the covers of the book. In
the actual hard copy of the book will be found
Biographical material on many people,
Historical material pertaining to early family
origens, Text of Wills, Deeds and other court
records, Text of a diary written by Zenobia Simms
during the Civil War in Culpeper, Va.,
Genealogical Charts covering the first 5
generations, 227 Scanned Photos of people and
places, a list of military men from the Revolution
thru Viet Nam, and a 49 page triple column index.
It is loose leaf bound to permit easy updates.
I have prepared an abbreviated version of the text which you may download.
You will be missing some 227 pictures that are in the 399 page book, the
very interesting 50 page diary of Zenobia Simms kept during the Civil War
and telling of her experiances in Culpeper and Richmond during the War, as
well as the index which would be useless for this condensed version. The
format is for Windows Write(.wri). If you would like a copy of the original
hard copy book please send $21.00 and your name and address to me at(the
book will be shipped US Mail):
Albert E. Simms Jr.
5 Warfield Place
Fredericksburg, Va

I am currently working on a supplement to the book but it will probably be
a long time before it is ready. Don't worry though, the book is loose leaf
and the new pages will fit in at the appropriate places. Any new printing
after the supplement is done will include the original book with the inserted
pages. No doubt the price will be higher due to increases in printing costs
and postage but it is completely non-profit. What I pay, you will pay - no
labor included.
258K zipped file of the text of my Simms family genealogy.
The following pages will detail in verbiage, pictures and sound my Simms
lineage from the earliest that I know of in the 1500s thru my grandchild
today.
the "zipped" text of the following story. Sorry, pictures are not
included but you can download them individually if you wish by clicking them.
A faster way to download pictures(or backgrounds, etc) if you are using
AOL, Netscape and probably Internet Explorer too is to place the cursor over
the item you want to save, press the RIGHT mouse button and chose the appropriate
menu item. This simply transfers the already downloaded item from your cache
to the directory that you specify and it does it in an instant!
A STORY OF SIMMS
The name Simms has a biblical origin and is derived from Simon(Simeon) the
second son of Jacob. In 1379 it appeared as Symes in Yorkshire, England.
Between 1400 and 1700 four families with this name achieved nobility status.
They lived in Northamptonshire and Somersetshire. There were also Symes families
living in Wicklow and Ulster, Ireland at this time. Some Sims's migrated
from England to Scotland in the mid 1400s.
As to our own specific lineage the earliest of the info that follows is the
result of the research of Leo Howson of Tampa, Fl. Leo hired an English
genealogist to do this work and he believes it to be accurate. His information
was corroborated, positively connected and added to from a 300 page group
of Simms Genealogy newsletters, put together by Cynthia Kirkland, that I
downloaded from the Internet some time ago. I am working on a supplement
to my book that will include this and a lot more information. And nowwww;
ON WITH THE
SHOW!
