Back at Chu Lai from LZ Bowman - July 6, 1968 - We were supposed to go back to the
field to another firebase after a couple of days in base camp but because of the damage to the
radar when it was dropped on LZ Bowman could not. It took a couple of weeks, an engineer
from General Electric and ultimately a new computer to fix the problem. While the other guys
relaxed I spent most of my time trying to fix the radar. I was beginning to doubt my ability until
the engineer from G.E. threw in the towel and installed a new computer. I also found time to get
my R&R to Hawaii scheduled for early August.
On July 22 we received word that we were to pack up again for a move to LZ Young the next
day. Again we were told that it was to be a short operation of only about 5 days or so. Once
burned; twice shy. We packed everything that we had including the kitchen sink...errr
refrigerator..., took a last look around Cherry Hill and prepared to be on the LZ permanently if
necessary. Good thing too since this time
the move to the field turned out to be permanent. On July 22 we moved to LZ Young. |

No. I am not still in the army; I was
discharged in November of 1969 after completing my 3 year enlistment. I don't have a set of
Jungle Fatigues so these Stateside Fatigues from 1969 will have to do here. The shirt fits; the
pants....Oh well.... Click here to contact me by
