Texas Astronomical Society: Based in Dallas Texas. Be sure to check out the links to member’s pages. There is a remarkable pool of talent at TAS.
This is a wonderful site hosted by Dr. Clay Sherrod and his brother Brian (both acomplished astronomers). Lots of good science and comraderie here. Good general forum and separate imaging forum hosted by Rick Krajeck. Too much to list, so check it out.
Fort Worth Astronomical Web Page: Great group of people gathering in Fort Worth monthly. This is much smaller more intimate group than TAS. Great helpful folks.
Former students of the Barnes & Noble (free) online astronomy class. This is a very friendly community of budding astronomers where a newbie can feel completely at ease, learn and post. More like an e-community with loosely structured format, and a great place to develop astro-friendships. (Very active)
Wonderful group of astronomers from Canada. This site has many terrific links. See also the ACATW E-group, which is an e-gathering of some of FVAS members.
Wonderful organizaiton promoting amateur astronomy. Good observation programs, and a related e-group , with message board where you can ask and some knowledgable people will answer astronomy related questions.
This is a very unstructured and informal gathering of amateur astronomers from around the world. Like the Outback Steak House ad "No Rules, Just Right". A friendly fireside chat over coffee format where you can share or ask questions and you'll always feel welcome. (Moderately active with flairs of activity)
Meade LX-90 special interest group. Very active and informative. If you own an LX-90 or are considering one, this is THE site. Questions are always answered and many memebers are extremely knowledgable. (40-150 posts/day)
Small group of Texas astronomers who share their observations and experiences. Not very active, but posts almost always receive a response.
Very well laid out site with news, events, educational resources and even an online store.
Lots of information for Meade ETX owners, but also much, much more. Very knowledgable individuals contribute to this forum. The files section is a treasure trove of information and the best place download a plethora of Autostar tours.
Special interest group devoted to LX200 owners, but much helpful information for other GoTo SCT owners by some knowledgable folks.
Special interest e-group for Meade users. Meade advanced product users guide (MAPUG). Many useful links for Meade owners and prospective owners. Many threads on imaging using the Pictor cameras as well.
