8/18/00 Monson Maine Phone call from Plant and Lindy. They made it through the infamous 100 mile wilderness of Maine, and are currently in the town of Monson. The 100 mile wilderness is exactly what it sounds like! 100 miles of prime Maine wilderness, with no towns, no stores, no post offices. Therefore, hikers need to carry along enough supplies to go the whole distance. They report that while hiking there, they saw more moose and bear, and lots of beautiful scenery. At times, they only hiked 8-9 miles a day before coming upon a spot they found so beautiful, they decided to spend the day in that area and would set up camp.
In the middle of the 100 mile wilderness, they came across a place called White House Landing. It is an old logging camp originally built in the 1800's. It is now a privately owned paradise. They spent some time there, staying in one of cabins, and enjoyed the natural surroundings. They also went canoeing and saw some Loons. Both really enjoyed their stay there and report it is a lovely place to really get away from it all. In fact, there is no direct road access. Access is gained by use of a logging road. At the end of the road is a lake. When you reach the lake, you blow the air horn, and they come across the lake and take you to White House Landing by boat.
Although Plant and Lindy have been enjoying themselves on the AT, they have decided that they are going to postpone finishing their hike for now. Both have commitments in the "real world" that need attending to. They are running out of time and money for such an adventure. They realize that the Trail will always be there, and will always be calling them back to finish what they started.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE...
On behalf of Plant and Lindy, I would like to thank all of you who have followed along with them and supported them in their journey. Thank you for all the words of encouragement via email, the guestbook and the good old U.S. Post Office. And thank you for being patient with me as I tried to document their trip for you. This was my first attempt at a web page. I am expecting Plant and Lindy to come this way in a few weeks. At that point, they will add their final thoughts and future plans. God Bless......Lorrie

SO, WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
The following is a note to all from Plant and Lindy:
"Thank You to all of the people who offered us support along the trail, we really appreciated it. A special thanks to all our fellow thru-hikers in the class of 2000 for making our experience special, particularly, 3-no-Trump, Solespoken and Smasher for all of their inspiration. Also, thanks to Funkee Monkee, Sailboat, Welches, Magnum, and Mouse Trap. We hope the rest of your trips went well, and thank you for the companionship. And last, but certainly not least, Baltimore Jack, thanks for all of the trail wisdom and advice.
Now that we have re-entered society, Plant has taken a job with Dial Cordy and Associates, an environmental consulting firm in Jacksonville Beach Florida. Lindy has landed with McNeil, Garrison and Fletcher, an insurance firm also located in Jacksonville Beach. Hopefully, both of these jobs will allow us to get back out there and finish those pesky last 1100 miles or so over the coming years. Until then, happy trails.
