Sam was my first dog, and my first competition dog. Neutered because he was not championship quality, and because of his severe hip dysplasia, Sam and I focused our attention in the obedience ring. Sam was quick to learn, and very eager to please. He earned his CD in one weekend, with an average score of 193.

Throughout Sam's life, once a week he went to the local children's hospital to visit the children. At first, the doctor's were very leery of Sam's size, but very quickly they learned how calm natured Sam truly was. It was amazing to see the children light up as Sam entered their hospital rooms. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal ran a feature article on Sam the summer before he died.
