Folarin Campbell wants to prove that there is more to his game than being a slasher / scorer.
In fact, Campbell wants to take it a step further and demonstrate for coaches that what once was familiar can indeed become familiar again.
"If it takes playing the one (point guard) to win, that's what I will do," Campbell told PrepStars.com." My freshman and sophomore year I played point guard and I have thought about continuing that, but after awhile I became a scorer.
"I just want to show coaches that I can post up, get people the ball, and that I can score, penetrate and dish. I will probably play the one in college, but I would love to play the two (position)."
Campbell, a 6-3,190-pound senior guard from Silver Spring (MD) Springbrook, does have good size to play the point, but seems more effective as a slashing scorer who can get streaky hot from the perimeter. His passing ability and handling skills are solid, causing a number of schools to take notice.
Boston College, LaSalle, George Mason, Houston, Boston University, East Carolina, Towson and Harvard have all made contact. Campbell has made unofficial trips to UMBC, Delaware and VCU.
July will be a very busy month for Campbell. He'll attend both the individual and team camp at the Eastern Invitational, then head to College Park, MD for the Charlie Weber tournament. From there, Campbell will trek to Greensboro, NC for the Carolina Scouting Alliance event. All with the DC Hawks, he'll then head north to Susquehanna PA for a July finale tournament.
After the July exposure, Campbell hopes to have a number of schools ready to step up with offers. When that happens he will look for the ideal fit.
"I want to look for a place that I can go in and play and continue to get better, "said Campbell.” I want at least five minutes as a freshman to learn about the game and then progress from that.
"I want to stay close to home, but it depends on the offers that I receive, so I will have to keep that in mind."
