Second Chance for Homeless Pets is an animal rescue located in Heber Utah. Heber is about 45 minutes east of Salt Lake City. We specialize in Dog and Cat rescue but get other animals in rescue also. An Animal rescue is an organization that takes the animals from the shelters when they are about to be euthanized (put-to-sleep). We then adopt them out to qualified homes. Second Chance is not a shelter; it is a network of foster homes, which keep the pets at their houses until they are adopted. We do have a small holding facility in Heber where the animals can get vet care and be rehabilitated until a foster home or permanent home is found.

If you are thinking of giving a pet to your loved one for a gift, remember one thing: You're not giving a gift, you're giving a life! Many animals become homeless after falling victim to a birthday/holiday. PLEASE be sure that the person receiving the gift really wants a pet and knows the responsibility that comes with it. Have the person meet the pet before it is given to them to ensure compatibility. Second Chance has gift certificates available! Be part of the solution and not part of the problem! Second Chance for Homeless Pets has an extensive referral program. This is how the program works:

If you have a specific pet or breed you're looking for, we will try to locate that pet for you either at local shelters or local rescues. If there is no match you will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified when a pet matching your description arrives. All adopters must be willing to arrange transportation for there new pet from our rescue in Utah. We work with many animal shelters and all-breed rescues. All of the animals we place are homeless or unwanted pets.

Most of the time when we find a pet, it's a life or death situation. Animals are only held for in shelters for 3 days. An Immediate response is required. PLEASE include your Name, City, State, and Telephone number with all requests.

If you find a dog before Second Chance locates one PLEASE write us back so we can stop our search for your new pet. We receive several requests each day, and things would go much quicker if we didn't have to continue looking for pets for homes that have already adopted one

Please Note
Some breeds are difficult to locate in shelters and may take months or even years to fill some requests. If you want a puppy, especially in a toy or small sized breed, PLEASE consider adopting an older dog. You will have a grateful (housebroke) companion
