Perceptions

Born and educated in New York City, Barbara Field now resides in the Seattle, Washington area.  Her fascination with nature and diverse cultures encourages her to discover new sights and sounds in near and faraway places.  These impressions are reflected in her creative designs and compositions. She is also a highly trained and experienced educator and art specialist with an active history of working with children aged five through eighteen.

Education and Honors

A.B. Degree with high honors in Art and English, Hunter College, City University of New York

Nancy Ashton Award for excellence in art, Hunter College

Graduate M.F.A. classes, Hunter College and the University of Washington

Master of Education, the University of Washington and the University of Puget Sound. The emphasis was on curriculum development and administration. Special projects included the creation of in-depth units interpreting traditional Japanese story characters through origami creations, utilizing hand-developed papers and patterns.
Work Experience and Artistic Specialties

She served as a Middle School and High School Art teacher as well as an elementary Art Supervisor in the Boston, Mass. area.

In the Puget Sound Area, she taught in public and independent school classrooms and more recently served as the founding Head of Tacoma's Seabury School.

Her full time return to painting is documented in her watercolor and acrylic designs and pictures. Since she believes that art is a reflection and integration of visual memory, past experience and an intuitive and intellectual process, her work ranges from natural subjects to flights of fantasy.
