Club Beginnings
On March 29, 1998 the first meeting of the Botanical Club of Cape Cod and the Islands ("the Club") was held at the former George M. Gray
Museum, now the MBLWHOI
Library Herbarium in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The idea was to gather together to jointly appreciate and
support our botanical heritage, to share information from various botanical endeavors, to preserve, protect, and augment the herbarium collections
that are housed on the Cape and that at present have little or no funding for curatorial care, and to expand our research capabilities.
Club members provide support in
developing the online digital
database of specimens housed in the Herbarium which is physically located in
the MBLWHOI Library in MacLean Building. Club
activities also include going on monthly field trips to interesting botanical locations on the Cape and Islands.
Business meetings in Woods Hole are held in the Lillie Building room 103
unless otherwise noted.
To join the club and be eligible to receive the club newsletter by mail, please send
