This tree is part of my willow tree series. Originally titled Bonsai Landscape, the name has now been changed to Summer Willow in keeping with my willow tree theme.
The leaves are created with my weeping willow fringing technique. The trunk of the tree is woven in peyote beadwork using various bead sizes, then embellished to create even more texture.
The tree's island is a seperate piece using the same beads as the tree trunk appliqued onto velvet using my moss stitch.
A FUNNY STORY ABOUT THE ISLAND:
When Jean Campbell of Beadwork magazine asked me if I had a purse for the Beadwork Creates Beaded Bags book I grabbed the island, folded it, sewed it together using moss stitch, added some extra embellishment and created my little Moss Garden Purse below.
